On Tuesday, October 5, 2021, Catherine Lorraine McCarthy, age 59, passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital of cancer.

Cathy was born on May 1, 1962 in St. Louis, Missouri to John and Barbara McCarthy. She grew up in an active home with her three older siblings, many pets and graduated from Ritenour High School.

She embraced a spirit of independence. Cathy purchased a home by herself that was located a very short distance where she was raised in Overland. It was her passion to renovate the home to reflect her style and hands-on approach. She helped install a new kitchen, painted every square foot of wall and ceiling, added a home gym in the basement, built a walled garden in the back yard and made other improvements.

Her interests included gardening, fitness and exercise, and being an animal lover. She cared for several dogs and cats over the years that benefitted from her kindness and companionship. Cathy loved taking long walks with Rooster, a spunky Chihuahua. In addition, she valued and spoke of family, and displayed photos of her siblings, parents and grandparents in her home. And she had a love of cars.

She was known for her generosity and infectious laugh, and enjoyed an understated strength of religious faith. Her co-workers at Straub’s Grocery Store in Clayton will remember her as a friend with a warm smile.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, John, her mother, Barbara, her brother, Kenneth, and sister, Joan Sippel She is survived by her older brother, Robert, several nieces, nephews and cousins all who miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held for Family and Friends on Saturday, November 13th from

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Straub’s, 8282 Forsyth Blvd., Clayton, MO 63105. Please proceed to the Rotunda Area which is located above the produce section of the store. Lunch will be provided.
