Carlo “Joe” Condellire
Carlo Joseph (Joe) Condellire died May 14 th at the age of 67 at SLU Hospital, after a long battle with liver cancer.
Affectionately known as Joe Striker throughout the St. Louis music scene, he lived nearly his entire life in the St. Louis area, where he spent decades sharing his extensive love and knowledge of music, not just as a popular DJ, but as a mentor for countless numbers of young enthusiasts. Listening and collecting music was ever his passion, but reggae was his true love. Joe originated and for years co-hosted the longtime KDHX reggae show Positive Vibrations, where he amassed an extensive following of devoted fans.
Joe was an avid reader and a student of life, someone who could carry on a conversation with anyone, and was happy to do so. He was an extremely intelligent person, complicated and yet always kind, gentle and thoughtful to everyone who knew him. Life wasn’t always easy for Joe, but he faced every battle with strength and determination, and he never stopped trying to be the best person he could be.
Joe would proudly say the most impactful event of his life was the birth of his daughter, Marie. Watching her grow up brought him endless days of joy and happiness. He also leaves behind his wife, Jane, his mother, Bobbie, his brother and music buddy, Mark (aka Tony Roma), and his brothers, Dominic, Dana and Mike. He was preceded in death by his father, Carlo and his brother, Chris.
“Live for yourself and you will live in vain; live for others, and you will live again.” -Bob Marley
Joe Condellire has left footprints on this earth that will never be erased. His love of family and his influence on the music scene in the St. Louis area say everything there is to say about the man he was.
Visitation at St. Louis Cremation on Chouteau May26th, 2-5pm. Celebration of Life to be June 19th. Details to follow.
Please no flowers, no money, no donations. Honor Joe by being understanding and kind to one another and pass on the positive vibes.
Dearest Joe,

Joe made me listen Reggae 50 yrs ago. With a smile on his face like he knew something that I needed to know. He did!
❤️
I have been a friend of the family for many years now, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of the brothers company, and their families…It was a sad state to have lost Chris, but losing Joe, being the eldest, is even harder… I pray that the other four brothers can stay healthy so that their Dear Mother Roberta can enjoy the rest of her days without any more loss…
God bless you all…💜
Here’s to you Joe. The coolest brother in STL. You were always so thoughtful and caring. We will miss you dearly.
Love always.

I am one of the legions of listeners who tuned in to “Positive Vibrations” when he was on KDHX co-hosting with Professor Skank and I was beginning my immersion in reggae and Jamaica. I got to know him around 1994. It’s impossible to summarize the richness of experience of a long and good friendship. Nobody quite like him.
Our deepest condolences go out to Bobbi, Jane & Marie, and Mark, Dom, Dana & Mike and their families.
We hold you all in our hearts today, and remember fondly a young and strong Joe.
We picture him today in the warm embrace of Carlo and Chris.
Love,

What a sweet sweet guy. i wish I could have spent more time with him because we always had lots to talk about. Our connections with others is what matters the most, when all is said and done.
My condolences to the whole Condellire family very saddened about Joe’s passing but I’m very happy that he’s not miserable anymore it was my distinct pleasure to know him for many many years growing up with him we hitchhiked to California together and Ohio together and did everything together much much history he can never be replaced and he will always Live in my heart
My fondest memory of Joe was he let me play poker with his housemates in DC and I even won some money. You were a good guy!
I cherish all my memories of my cousin, Joe. So many fun weekends playing sports and of course, turning us on to new music, even in elementary school. I’m a music lover and I probably owe that to Joe. Thoughts and prayers to Aunt Bobbi and the boys. Love you all. ❤
