James was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on October 8, 1948 the son of Fred E. Nuernberg and Lois E. Nuernberg. When James was 7, the family moved to Madison. James was the youngest of three spirited brothers.  He would grow up and successfully graduate from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology.  He went on to work as a successful Senior Lithography Engineer at various Semiconductor companies including Intel, Sematech and Motorola.

In 1979, he met the love of his life – (Sandra) Sophia Alexander at an Ashram in California.  They devoted their 43 year marriage to supporting each other’s life journeys and forming a beautiful and loving family with their daughter, Alexis who was born in 1981. Over the years they lived in several cities including San Jose, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Austin, Texas and Portland, Oregon.  James was always committed to helping his family.  In 2010, at the request of their daughter, James and Sophia moved from Portland to St. Louis to help care for their newly arriving granddaughter, Kinley. Two years later they welcomed Gavin, their new grandson. Two years ago, they were happy to be able to move only 2 doors down from their family.

James is survived by his wife (Sandra) Sophia Alexander, daughter Alexis Cutter, son-in-law Justin Cutter, grandchildren Kinley and Gavin Cutter, brothers Fred H. Nuernberg and Mark Nuernberg, sister-in-law Chong Nuernberg, brother-in-law Jerome Cushman, nephew Joe Nuernberg, niece Kristen Nuernberg and his German foreign exchange ‘son’ Stephan Bauer, his wife Jana Lipovski, and their daughters Marlene and Karla Bauer along with many special friends and neighbors.

James was a passionate photographer and videographer well-known for the quality of his work as well as his holiday cards which many people saved and anticipated each year. He loved gifting people their memorable moments captured on film.

Shortly after moving to St. Louis, he started a successful small business, Dirty Dog Digital Productions. He would support countless high school athletes with sports game film needed for college recruitment.  James also worked part-time with his son-in-law offering up his organizational skills to help run financials for St. Louis Samurai Lacrosse.

In addition to these efforts, James spent his days stock trading, reading, studying history and designing beautiful outside spaces. He had an amazing gift and eye for creating flower beds and mystical stone pathways for people to enjoy. James was an Enlightenment Master and sadhu.

His kindness and loving presence are sorely missed!

We love you forever, Opa!
