October 18, 1938 – October 18, 2024

St. Peters, MO

Darwin G. Ladewig, 86, of St. Peters, MO, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, at Barnes St. Peters Hospital, St. Peters, Missouri.

Darwin was born in Kenosha on October 18, 1938, the son of the late Bernard and Alice (Germain) Ladewig. He attended Kenosha schools, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1957.

Darwin served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for two years while in high school. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an Air Policeman in Strategic Air Command and attained the rank of Airman First Class.

He married Kathryn Lesko on August 23, 1967. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2021.

Darwin retired from Twin Disc in 1999 after 33 years. In 2001, Darwin moved with his wife to Florissant, MO, to be closer to their son Scott (and to escape Wisconsin winters).

Darwin enjoyed fishing, taking care of his cars, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and playing the occasional game of cribbage. After moving to Missouri, Darwin especially looked forward to the annual trips his son planned for them, especially when it involved a cruise ship or a warm beach somewhere.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Scott Ladewig and Kristin Smith of St. Peters, Missouri; his brothers-in-law Robert Gurney of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Richard Lesko of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and many loving nieces and nephews. Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn; and his sister, Darlene Gurney.

Interment will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Details will be shared with friends and family when available.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Humane Society of Missouri or to your local animal shelter.
