Aljuia “Judy” Hornsey

 HORNSEY, ALJUIA (JUDY, AJ) 

 

Passed into the arms of our Lord January 20, 2012, to be with her parents Johnnie and Doris (Crawford) Weldon. 

 

Judy was born on July 25th, 1942 and passed away at the age of 69. To her family she was known as "Judy" and in the professional world she was "AJ". Judy was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. Her mother, Doris (Crawford) Weldon, was from Dresden, TN. Her father, Johnnie Weldon, was from Martin, TN. She was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in 2009; the doctors gave her 6 months in the beginning. She fought a hard battle, which she beat the odds by lasting 2 years and 2 months. 

 

A devoted daughter, niece, cousin and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and business associates. 

 

Judy leaves behind her Aunts Rachel Elder, Bessie Kibbler, and Uncle Joe Weldon, numerous cousins she considered her brothers and sisters and their children her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her loving friend and four-legged companion Mesha Dew. 

 

She was a woman who loved life no matter what the day would bring. She always had a smile on her face no matter what. She knew how to brighten others days even if it was just a hug or a little gift. Was always there for others and willing to help. She was very caring and loving to many people. A role model and an ideal to many that she touched with her grace. She always knew how to help and push others to pursue their dreams and to never give up on anything. Taught many how to have courage, strength, and to be an individual. Very dedicated and committed to all the groups and organizations she belonged too. She enjoyed being the President of many organizations. An extremely strong willed, outstanding individual woman. Was truly a woman that had the pure ability to show and inspire beauty and all aspects of life. 

 

Her career started at Ralston Purina in St. Louis as an administrative assistant in the research facilities. Prior to leaving Ralston she was actively involved in the Ralston Education Training Department. Was the instructor of Time Management Communications, motivation and public speaking presentations. Along with second in command for all the Training programs at Sverdrup and Parcel where she was writing programs, presenting seminars and budgeting for the department. Pursued college courses from St. Louis Community College and Webster University in Business Administration and Communications. 

 

In 1981, she formed her own company that was based on counseling individuals on poise, positive thinking, public speaking, communication, and public relations along with general teaching how to increase their self-esteem. She trained thousands of individuals through these techniques. 

She was recognized and served on numerous Boards and groups: 

  • Recognized by First Lady Barbara Bush in 1982 for setting up and managing a Positive Motivational Seminar 

  • Sang with the Lester Family when she was younger 

  • Featured in Lifestyle Magazine for achievements in Motivation and Positive Attitude Seminars 

  • Asked to serve on the Advisory Council for Delta Burke Design 

  • Produced and directed a television commercial that was nominated for a local Emmy 

  • Produced and directed numerous television programs in the Religious field 

  • Produced numerous Beauty Pageants and Fashion Shows 

  • Attended Real Estate Board classes and attended seminars on various ways on purchasing houses 

  • Member of National Speakers Association 

  • Headed a International Toastmistress Convention Public Relations Department along with being the President of Divisional ITC in Region 

  • Member who served as numerous positions of the Gravois Business Association in South St. Louis 

  • President of “Prestige Red Hatters” 

  • A member and President of the First District Business Partnership

    After being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, she did not give up, she wanted to live the rest of the time God gave her to the fullest. She continued as an active Board member of the First District Business Partnership until her passing. She was also able to go on a couple of trips before she passed. The last trip she was able to enjoy was going to Texas and spending the day on the beach celebrating her twin nieces 25th birthday. 

     

    Judy was loved and cherished by many. Looked up upon as an ideal and will always be a role model for her loved ones. Judy will be missed greatly by everyone that she has touched in her life. 

     

    You fought the fight and God gave you more time with us than the Doctors thought. Rest for now till we meet again, as you know we want a welcome celebration and tour when we meet you in heaven. 

     

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made too either, BJC Hospice, Pancreatic Cancer Organization, or World Changers.

      Judy was a wonderful loving friend and I will greatly miss her.
