Robert O. Piening, 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, at home, surrounded by his family. His life is celebrated by his wife of 56 years Lynne (Huber) Piening, his children David Piening (Becky Piening) Susan Piening Atkinson (Hermon Atkinson), his grandchildren Sam, Alexis, Eric, and Robert, and by the multitude of lives he touched. Bob was born and raised in St. Louis and educated at Washington University. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, then went to work for Union Electric (Ameren) for thirty-six years. He retired in 1997 to a life of family, fishing, philanthropy, and service, as well as travel with his wife. Among the wide variety of causes he has served are his church and the wider UCC denomination, Kirkwood School Board and Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and KirkCare. He had a love of the Arts that led him to support among others the Muny Opera, Stages, Jazz at the Bistro, and the St. Louis Repertory Theater. In lieu of flowers donations to Habitat for Humanity, KirkCare, and Kirkwood United Church of Christ are requested.
