Emil F. Kammer
Emil F. Kammer
November 23, 2017
Survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy M. Kammer and his three children, Julianna M. Conway (nee Kammer), Mark A. Kammer, and Karen A. Kammer Lindsley, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild that he has not met yet.
Emil passed away on Thanksgiving (his favorite holiday) after a long hard battle with lung cancer. He fought through many years of chemotherapy, radiation and other treatments so that he could care for his “first wife” Dorothy. One of his favorite sayings was, “Every day is a good day”. Emil touched many lives. His optimism was infectious. A natural born salesman, Emil had an innate ability of turning a normal conversation into a joke, and you didn’t realize it until he delivered the punch line. And he repeatedly said that if you can’t make one person laugh every day then it is not worth getting out of bed. All he cared about was taking care of his family.
Emil was a pitcher on the University of Missouri baseball team that won the College World Series in 1954, and he was inducted in the University of Missouri Hall of Fame in 1994. After graduating in 1956, he had a long and very successful career in the insurance business, including starting his own business. He was a proud member of the Shriners (Jesters) and definitely enjoyed the camaraderie with his fellow members as well as the charitable nature of the organization.
Emil loved all of god’s creatures, especially dogs, which we all know if GOD spelled backwards.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Moolah Shrine Center, 12545 Fee Fee Road, Maryland Heights, MO 63143, from 4 PM to 7PM in the Sheiks Room. The closest access will be if you park in the back of the building. Please come and join us in a toast.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners.
Emil will always be remembered for his love of family, friends and life.
So sorry to hear about you dad! I have such fond memories of us running around your house in Hill Trail…in our swimming suits(of course)… and your dad was always in on the fun. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Sheila
