Donald J. Miller
Donald J. Miller, 91, of St. Louis, passed away peacefully at 4:15 AM on March 18, 2020 at Mercy Hospice South-deGreeff from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Don was born at home on December 3, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Joseph Miller and two brothers, Lawrence and Daniel Miller. He is survived by another brother, David (Diane) Miller.
Don married Mary Jeanne Voss, May 1, 1954 who survives him. Together in a marriage that spanned 65 years they had eight children: Stephen (Diane) Miller, Mary (Michael) Miller-Wilson, James (Catherine) Miller, Margaret (Michael) Greene, Louise (Charles) Danforth, Joseph (Kristine) Miller, Joan Winkelhoch and William (Tammy) Miller.
He is also survived by 22 grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Passanise, Daniel (Kayla) Miller, Kevin (Courtney) Miller, Stephen Miller, Elizabeth Palms, Michael (Lauren) Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Joseph Wilson, Jonathan (Laura) Miller, Caitlin Miller, Anne Marie (Andrew) Brennan, Katherine (Anthony) Barsanti, Christopher Carter, Mary Margaret Danforth, Charles Danforth, Vincent Danforth, Nicholas Miller, Stephen Winkelhoch, James Winkelhoch, Maribeth Winkelhoch, Monica Miller, Alexander Miller and 14 great-grandchildren.
Don served with distinction in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries. His sense of volunteerism and community involvement spanned decades and included being a tour guide at the St. Louis Museum of Transportation, delivering Meals on Wheels and singing in the church choir.
A Memorial Mass is being planned to celebrate his extraordinary life, however, because of the COVID-19 virus outbreak, this celebration is currently postponed.

I’m so fortunate to have know him along with so many in his beautiful family.He was a great example to so many and will be greatly missed.
We were so sorry to learn about the death of your husband/dad. Mr. Miller was a wonderful, gentle, humble man who always greeted us with kindness and a warm smile. We have missed seeing him at Catholic and pro life events. Please know that all of you will continue to be in our prayers. Eternal rest grant unto Mr. Miller, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Don was a great guy to work with on the 1522. Always willing to help wherever needed. I enjoyed joking around with him.
He will be missed by many and has a great family.

A friend and great person. Always helpful with the Frisco 1522 crew. He loved to fire up that steam engine and be an operator fireman. I enjoyed his company and stories. He will Be Missed. Prayers for his wife and family. GOD Bless Everyone.
So glad I got to know Mary and Don through the Legion of Mary, and their family. There are many happy memories of gatherings and stories…the 1522 & more.
He and his guardian angel will go on into eternal happiness, and our prayers are joined.
