Dennis Michael Holmes

Dennis Michael Holmes passed away on Sunday, December 6th, 2020 due to injuries sustained in a car accident at the age of 61 years old.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Charlotte Holmes, his four adoring children, Adrienne Holmes, Brittany Guthrie (Chris), Ashley Turigliatto (Cate), and Denny Holmes (Hailey), his seven grandchildren, Trinity, Layla, Axl, Max, Addison, Rhett and Ronan, four brothers, three sisters, nieces, nephews and many, many additional family, friends and adopted family members.

Dennis was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 11, 1959 to mother Catherine Schillizzi and father Robert Holmes. He met the love of his life, Charlotte, at the young age of 12 and they married at 19 years old. Together they shared many adventures, raised four loving children and delighted in their seven beautiful grandchildren.

Dennis was a true Renaissance man if there ever was one– a mechanical genius, there was nothing that he could not fix. If the tool he needed did not already exist, he would simply create it. He was a teacher, inventor and an innovator, always looking for the solution to the problem at hand. Those who love Dennis believe that he was magic, as there was nothing that he could not do if he put his mind to it. Even as a “man’s man”, he was never hesitant to cook a delicious meal for his family, weep openly when something moved him or change diapers and rock babies at any given opportunity. He has a gentle heart and although life could be difficult in many ways, you rarely heard him complain.

Dennis was a helper– always putting his own needs and rest aside so that he could care for those around him, even when he was hurt or tired. He believed that kindness is a virtue, and he would literally give his last dollar to help someone in need.

His family and friends will remember him as a gifted storyteller and songwriter, always able to invoke laughter even in life’s most challenging moments. He created rope swings, obstacle courses, tree houses and pumpkin patches, transporting those around him to the imaginative world that he existed in. He loved to play pool, a good 7 & 7, his fur babies, fishing and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. His greatest roles in life were as a hands-on father and a proud Papa.

Dennis loved fiercely and freely. Throughout his life he adopted so many people into his family, always reminding everyone that they were loved and worthy of love, even when they were at their worst.

Dennis knew no strangers, was the life of the party and lived his life to the fullest every day of the 61 years that he was given. A true man of faith, he believed that life was only the beginning of his journey. He rests now in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and will spend eternity in peace and love. Those he has left behind will keep his memory alive through our kindness and our love of one another, and through our constant pursuit of adventure.
