Patrice “Trisha” Marie Godar

September 6, 1987 – January 6, 2021

Trisha Godar, age 33, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends.

Trisha was born in St. Louis, MO on September 6, 1987 to Patricia Hayne and John Godar. She is survived by her grandmother Elizabeth Godar; her parents Patricia Hayne & John Godar; her siblings Will Hayne (Tina Badalamenti), John Godar (Paige Szpatoski), & Melissa Leal (Chris Leal) – we love you lil Pat Pat; and her nieces and nephews Jenna, Jordyn, & Will Hayne; David & Sophia-Rose Westbrook; and Josephine Cowan.

Trisha was a brave, vibrant, genuine, badass woman. She kept it real, had a dark sense of humor, and was a natural caretaker, which made her a phenomenal nurse. Trisha loved being in the action. She worked as a trauma and emergency nurse and in 2019 reached her goal of becoming a travel nurse. Staying true to character, Trisha was one of the first nurses to sign up to travel to New York City in April 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to help at Elmhurst Hospital. Trisha helped and impacted so many people in her young life. When her brother was in a life-threatening accident, Trisha took the lead in making sure he and his family were well-cared for. When her dear grandpa was moved into a nursing home, Trisha made sure the facility and the nurses met her high standards. She visited her grandpa often and took selfies and videos with him to share with the rest of the family. Trisha loved to laugh, travel, go to concerts, and have new experiences. In recent years she finished a triathlon, learned to scuba dive, and traveled to Thailand and the Philippines. Everyone knows she was a die-hard Cardinals fan and Yadi’s #1 supporter. Unwilling to stop helping people even after death, Trisha gifted her body to science. Trisha will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A private memorial service will be held. A celebration of life will take place in summer of 2021. No flowers, please. Donations in Trisha’s memory may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. The family is forever in debt to John Godar (Trisha’s brother) and Paige Szpatoski (John’s partner) who were Trisha’s primary caretakers during her battle with colon cancer. Please get screened for colon cancer. Share pictures and memories on Trisha’s Facebook page.

Heartbroken for the world that we’ve lost a true caregiver! She was born to be a nurse! I am so grateful to have known her and loved her. John and I met everyone in the family at your grandfather’s funeral! She loved all of you with her big, loving heart! She took me to see Stevie Wonder, and we had many, many long talks about everything! So hard to imagine the world without her! We will NEVER forget her!

Oh what a beauty she was. I would often go down to the ED and find her just to chat. She always knew when something was bothering me. I called her Mermaid because of her vibrant red hair. I got to attend a concert with her, and I loved it. She holds a very special place in my heart.
