Delle Chubb
Delle Chubb, 80, passed away peacefully at Bethesda Dilworth at 11 AM on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 after a several-year decline. Delle was a wonderful, colorful freelance writer. Among numerous other publications, she had a story purchased by the Ladies’ Home Journal in 1970 and was a book reviewer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 1970-1973. Late in life she also became a much adored teacher of special needs children. She was the beloved companion of Charles (deceased); dear mother to Andrew (New York), Christopher (Missouri), and Caroline (New Mexico), and beloved first cousin of Bonnie Marsh (New Jersey), Jane Smith (husband Paul; Texas), and Rev. David Harkness (wife Betty; Tennessee). Delle was part raconteur whose presence was said to light up a room. She was gifted as an interior decorator, landscaper, community theatre performer and cook; played tennis and swam, with vigor and joy; and had a particular passion for organizing and taking float trips on Missouri rivers. Delle arranged to donate her body to Washington University Medical School in 1972. She re-stated this in 2008. No services. The family is appreciative of donations to charity in Delle’s memory, in particular those benefiting special needs children.
