John Nowotny

 

John William Nowotny January 29, 1932 – December 28, 2011:
He is survived by his wife Nancy, sons John Matthew, his wife Cathy of St. Louis and David and his wife Carolyn of North Carolina. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren- Thomas, Sara, Alyssa, Charles, William, Margaret and Dorothy Nowotny. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Nowotny-Freitag and one son, Joseph William Nowotny.
John attended St. Mary Magdalene grade school and St. Louis University High School. Education was very important to John, and he rounded out his education at the University of MO.-Rolla, Washington University and Webster University with degrees in Engineering and his MBA.
He served in the US Army in the 5th Armored Division from 1952 to 1956. His time in the service included a tour in Germany with many interesting adventures in counter insurgency work. After completion of his military service, he married Nancy Olga Brusasco in 1958. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. He worked as a mechanical, industrial and robotics engineer for most of his career in St. Louis with a number of international assignments in Mexico, Asia and the Mid-east.

 
John was involved in many organizations including the Theta Kappa Phi fraternity. While his sons were young, he was a leader for Boy Scout Troop #301. He was President of the St. Louis Association for Children with Learning Disabilities. He volunteered for many years at the St. Louis Science Center and also enjoyed part time work at local hardware stores which gave him the opportunity to help many with his depth of mechanical aptitude. He will be remembered by his grandchildren for his endless jokes, candies and treats to spoil them!
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am December 30, 2011 at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic church in Sappington, MO.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

    My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family. Mr Nowotney seems to have been a great man and i know you are proud to have called him your father. Keep his memories close to your heart. My thoughts are with you.

    To you and your family my sincere condolences. I enjoyed reading who your father was, it gives a life to a name. Be proud of him and remember him. One only really dies if one stops talking about the person…
