Stanley Feist
Stanley William Feist died after a short illness at Barnes-Jewish Hospital on September 8, 2008.Stan was born on December 23, 1943, in O’Fallon, Illinois.
He graduated from O’Fallon High School and continued his education for a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Stan first taught in Girard, Illinois and later at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, Anna Illinois, where he was a science and social studies teacher and Dean of Students before retirement in 1995.
He Was active in the Illinois Education Association and worked hard at the local level as well as the regional and state levels. He was on the negotiating team at AJCHS, was Region 2 Chairperson, and member of the IEA Board of Directors. Upon retirement from teaching, he was a partner in Pigs-in-a-Poke BBQ, a restraint and catering business in Belleville, Illinois, from 1995 until 2006 when the business was sold.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Feist, and by a niece, Amy Feist. Stan is survived by his mother, Delores Feist; brothers Dennis (Pat) and Mike, and a sister, Gayle Battas; Nephews Todd and Kyle, nieces Melissa, Allison, Colleen, Katherine, and Emily. He is also survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary, and step-children, Tut, Cathie (Terry), Beth, Margaret, John and Adam(Suzette). In addition, Stan is also survived by his grand children Ty, Justin, John, Robert, Austin, Zech, Sarah, Madeline, Ali, Paige, Karson, and Sophia and many, many friends.
Stan was known as a fabulous chef and one of the leaders of Martha’s Helpers at Second Presbyterian Church in the Central West End, where he was an elder and an active member. He was a renowned tomato grower and good friend to all who worked for him. He was the Wizard who created delicious and magic black bean soup which was served as the traditional Christmas Day treat.
He will missed dearly by his family and friends. His smile, laughter, gentleness, and his kind and generous heart touched many.
