Willa Mae Drayton

Willa Mae Ruth (Chambers) Drayton was born in Kirkwood Missouri, to Edward Fairfax (aka Uncle Cookie) and Ruth Millicent Chambers. Willa Mae was born on March 28, 1926 in Kirkwood Missouri. She developed a personal relationship with Christ at an early age while attending Unity Missionary Baptist Church.

Willa Mae was the third youngest of nine siblings: William Chambers, Edward Chambers Jr, Taylor Chambers, Margaret (Chambers) Caviness, Theodore Chambers, Stanley Chambers, LaVerta Chambers-Bond who all preceded her in death. Anita Chambers-Houccins is her last living sister.

Willa Mae was educated at James Milton Turner school, Booker T. Washington, and Washington Technical School located at 18th and Franklin Ave. in the City of St Louis.

Willa Mae was united in Holy Matrimony to Edward Charles Drayton who preceded her in death. To this union were born: Karen Michelle Drayton, (Edward Charles Drayton Jr deceased), Nadja Faye Drayton, (Shelia Drayton deceased), David Montez Drayton, Clynese LaDora Drayton (aka Toni)

Willa Mae was employed by Bethesda Dilworth Nursing Home.

Willa Mae found out who she really was when she started group therapy at Centerpointe with Dr. Malik, she enjoyed Centerpointe so much she never wanted to graduate, she also enjoyed the JCCA adult day care program with Audrey. Willa Mae loved, dressing up, reading, working puzzles, dancing, listening to music. Her favorite station was Foxy 95.5 and Michael Baisdon was her favorite. Willa Mae also loved traveling and helping people. Whenever she could, she would give you her last dime. If you ever asked her how she was doing she would say “I am doing O.K…”. No doubt she celebrated life to the fullest, smiling and spreading joy at the hospital, the skilled nursing facility, and St. John’s Rehabilitation Center until her second stroke. And to everyone’s amazement she would still nod when we asked her if she was O.K..
