Al was the devoted husband of Regan Herl (NEE: Merz); loving father of Daniel, Katherine (Mark) and Abby; cherished grandfather of Oliver Herl; dear brother of Mary Ann (Barry) Boggiano, and brother in-law of Laura Merz, George Katich, Bob Merz and Melissa Miller. Al is also survived by nieces and nephews, Angie Long (Boggiano), Lauri Bertschmann (Boggiano), Churck Boggiano, Julia Katich and Jessica Lewis. He was also a dear friend to many, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Al worked at Laclede/Spire for 32 years, prior to retirement. He was a former member of the APWA, former Alderman of Bellefountain Neighbors, and former school board member of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Al enjoyed spending time outdoors, mowing the grass, playing and watching sports, and helping others, but most of all, he loved his family and would do anything for them.

Very sorry for your loss. I know he will be missed dearly. I am unable to attend the wake/mass because of a virus I have. I don’t want to get anyone sick. My prayers are with you and your family. Jo Ann Merz

I tried to get to the visitation yesterday. Let’s just say it was a comedy of errors. Sorry. And, I’m sorry about Al. He was a good man. I heard so much about his family over the years.
