Allen Gilliard Jr. of Madison Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the age of 77. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, Allen Gilliard Jr. was the loving son of the late Allen Gilliard Sr. and the late Grace Gilliard. Allen was father of one son Allen Gilliard III (Angela), dear brother of Donald Gilliard (Diane) and Richard Gilliard (Jeanne), beloved grandfather of Matthew and Zachary Gilliard, a cherished uncle, and friend to a close few. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Allen attended undergraduate school at Yale University. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, passed the Bar in 1970 and practiced law in Illinois off and on for 50 years. An avid learner, Allen went back to school later in life and earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Allen enjoyed attending alumni and Bar Association meetings, genealogical research and spending time with his twin grandsons. As a member of the International Biographical Centre, he enjoyed taking trips to London England.

Known by all as a sharp dresser, he loved to shop for clothes and believed in being appropriately attired at all times. He was generous and always had a story to tell and loved getting together over a good meal for holidays and special occasions. Allen will be missed but forever remembered.

The family will not be having a public indoor memorial at this time. A private gathering will be held at a later date.
