Andy Benjamin Cole
The Perspective of the Lonely Rose
By: Andy Cole
As the cool breeze brushes past me, I start shifting side to side
with my petals blowing in the wind.
Enjoying the warm pleasurable spring day, I began to feel peace.
No one is around to enjoy this graciously beautiful day.
Standing with my roots stitched into the ground my only choice was to stay put.
I watch as people walk by with each other happy; lots of laughter.
I soon then wonder about what that feels like.
I’ve always been alone, but it never seemed to matter to me.
Because living life is the best thing that could’ve happened to me.
I enjoy experiencing different things through sight day by day.
Like the butterflies floating through the air or the birds zipping through the sky.
My spot on earth supplies me with all the nutrients and all the sun I need.
So, to pay it forward I supply the bees with all the nectar they need.
So until the day my roots grow old and my stem starts to decay,
I will continue to watch the days pass by and enjoy life.
Andy, you were the best student. I do miss you. Ms. Chapman
I miss you ever single day big brother
I miss you every single day big brother
The Cole family would be remiss without thanking Carnahan High School of the Future, for which Andy was a proud graduate of the Class of 2020. We thank Principal Jonathan Griffin and his staff, most notably Barbara Jackson and Dr. Dianna Sumner, among many others. Dr. Sumner, who’s now at Sumner High, shared the above poem that Andy wrote, while a student in her AP World History Class.
“The things I remember most about Andy were his kind spirit and his warm smile that would light up the room,” she commented. “He has a vast intellect and was a reflective thinker.”
Cole Family, you have my sincerest condolences at this time. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. Wishing you peace, comfort, courage and lots of love at this time of sorrow.
