Annie Lee Gales-Davis

Annie Lee Gales-Davis (AnnLee) was born September 7, 1931, in Macon, Mississippi, to Simpson and Emma Macon. She was the youngest daughter of 8 children born to this union. All of her siblings, Carl Binion-Macon (Ann), Susie Green (Benjamin), Willie, Vera Lewis (Eddie), Henry Lee Macon (Ethel Mae), Agnes Wesley (Wilbur), Ernest Macon (Helen) preceded her in death. She was the last of her generation.

She was educated in the St. Louis Public Schools system.

AnnLee gave birth to six children, three daughters and three sons Sheilah Macon, Deborah White, William “Billy” (Katherine) Gales, Darryl Gales, Stacy Saunders, and Luther (Destinee) Saunders, III. Her two daughters Sheilah and Deborah preceded her in death.

AnnLee married twice in her lifetime. First to William Gales and, in her later years, to Artie “George” Davis. Both preceded her in death.

Everyone who knew AnnLee would say the same thing about her, “She always did what she wanted to do”. That’s exactly how she lived her life. She didn’t ask for anyone’s opinion, but she had no problem voicing her own. She definitely was a fighter and survivor.

She enjoyed fishing and gardening in her spare time. She loved to plant, cook, and eat her own vegetables. At one point, she even opened a convenience store out of her home, selling candy and pop to the neighborhood.

AnnLee leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to especially acknowledge and thank Ms. Floretta ‘Flo’ Wiley.

Flo was AnnLee’s trusted caregiver, housekeeper, errand-runner, secretary, and, above all, friend for the last several years. Thank you, Flo!
