Arlene Overholser Dallman
Arlene died on March 25, 2024 in Kirkwood, MO where she had moved to be near her son, Steve and daughter-in-law, Lisa.
Arlene was born and raised in Miamisburg, Ohio. She attended Miami University for 2 years and received a temporary teaching certificate During her first year of teaching, she met and married Lowell Richard (Dick) Dallman, a student seminarian who was serving as an intern pastor at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, Arlene’s home church. Their wedding at St. Jacob’s was standing room only … a wonderful beginning for the couple who were married for 61 years.
Ever the Silver Lining Lady, Arlene made the best of the many moves Dick’s career required. She graciously served and supported others as an at-home mom, pastor’s wife, Sunday School teacher for 26 years, and volunteer English tutor for immigrant children and adults, and long-term visitor to those unable to leave their homes.
Arlene also continued to teach. She returned to study at Concordia Teacher’s College in River Forest, IL to complete her BA degree in 1979. Before that time, she served as a teacher’s aide in Nursery School and in junior high special education classes. After receiving her degree, she taught elementary school in Moline, IL and special education in Brooklyn Park, MN.
Upon his retirement, Dick served as interim pastor for churches in Las Vegas, NV, Tucson, AZ and 2 churches in Charlotte, NC. It was in Charlotte that Arlene and Dick finally settled having fallen in love with the people and the community there..
