Charles Dachroeden III

Charles (Charlie) Dachroeden III (April 17, 1926 — June 17, 2019)

Charles was the first born son of Charles Dachroeden Jr and Leona (Sevier)
Dachroeden. The oldest of five, he was raised in the St. Louis area except for
several years spent in Cuba Mo during the Great Depression of the 1930s. He
graduated from Wellston high school in 1943 and soon after enlisted in the US
Navy with the aim of becoming a naval fighter pilot in the Pacific fleet.

Fortunately, WWII ended before he was assigned to active duty and he received
an honorable discharge. With the help of the GI bill Charles attended Washington
University where he received his BS in Engineering and was hired by McDonnell
Aircraft in 1950 where he worked until 1985.

He met his wife, Joyce (Faes) in 1948 or 1949 while she was boarding at his
grandmother’s house after moving to St. Louis from Hermann for schooling and
work. They were married on April 7, 1951 and bought their home in Florissant in
1955 where they raised three sons, Charles Allen, Daryl Robert, and Dana James.
Charlie worked during the week, coached his son’s teams in the evenings, and
enjoyed most summer weekends boating on the Mississippi river where he taught
many friends and extended family to ski and fish, never losing a boat or passenger
in the process. Charlie was an avid and competitive tennis player. After his
boys got out of high school he was able to play much more frequently, spending
many enjoyable days with his friends and tennis partners, especially after his
retirement. He competed in the Senior Olympics for over 25 years winning many
medals including gold and silver in his age group.

A doting grandfather, Charlie gave as much time a possible his time to his
grandchildren and did his best to help them grow up well. He cared greatly for his
entire extended family and demonstrated kindness and support to many over the
years.

Charlie travelled the world with Joyce in their early senior years and in the last
years Charles provided care and comfort for Joyce as she dealt with physical
ailments and memory issues.

Charles is remembered as a vibrant and wonderful husband, father and
grandfather. He was truly generous with his time and money, and had a positive
impact on the lives of many. He is interred at Jefferson Barracks National
Cemetery and is loved, and missed, by all who knew him
