Cindy Ann Burns

Cindy Ann Burns, of Carbondale, Illinois (previously of Granite City, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri), born September 11, 1960 in Rapid City, SD., passed away at 12:12 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, Illinois.

Mrs. Burns was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Burns served her country for close to five years and was stationed in the Philippines, Diego Garcia, Norfolk, Virginia and on the USS L. Y. Spear. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and watching her favorite football team, the Seattle Seahawks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David A. Dolen and Ann B. Knight, nee Baker.

Surviving are her husband of 27 years, Timothy Burns, whom she married on November 15, 1986 in Norfolk, Virginia.; daughter, Grace Anne Burns of Macomb, Illinois; brother-in-law, Steven (Tracy) Burns of Granite City, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Lynn Ann (Bob) Canada and Mary (Allen) Benko both of Granite City, Illinois; nephews, Robert (Christine) Canada, Brandon Burris, John Burns, Isaac, Ryder and Brody Cell, and nieces, Karree (Christopher) Hedden, Sarah Burris, Laura (Tom) Cell, and Elizabeth Dochwat-Seaborn: Two sisters, Kimberly Dolen and Judy Knight, and a brother Tim Knight all of Spokane, Washington. Mrs. Burns also had many friends at her last place of residence, Neuro-Rehab of Carbondale, Illinois.

Private graveside services will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the United Service Organization (USO) of Missouri.

    I am so sorry for your loss. Cindy will always hold a special place in my heart. It was such a joy to know her. She always made me smile, especially when we sang loudly while listening to Elvis! :o)

    My condolences. I feel blessed to have been part of Cindy’s life while she lived in Carbondale. She was such a special person. Many of her friends here will miss her and always remember her.
