Clare Hatsuko Kanoya
Clare Hatsuko Kanoya (nee Ogawa), passed away on July 23, 2019. She
was born on May 30, 1944 in Honolulu. She is survived by her husband
of 50 years, Hajime, their two sons, Tyson, Justin (and his wife
Sheila) and granddaughter Marissa. She is also survived by her
siblings Miles Ogawa (and his wife Lora) and Valerie Frazier.
Her parents, Jiro and Clara Ogawa, preceded her in death.
Clare attended college at the University of Hawaii and Manoa and
Southeast Missouri State University. She then spent a 30-plus year
career in education, working in schools in Southern California,
Southeast Missouri and St. Louis. She retired in 2000 after spending
15 years in the Parkway School District.
Clare was active in the St. Louis Japanese community, most notably
with the Japanese American Citizen League and St. Louis Osuwa Taiko
group. She was a collector of many things, including St. Louis
Cardinals memorabilia, Pez dispensers and 45 RPM records. But most
importantly she collected memories of time spent with friends and
family on her travels throughout the world.

I’m so sorry Hajime. I so enjoyed her posts. Only sorry I never got to meet her on person
With love Angie Brown
We will always have the fondest memories of Mrs. Kanoya including her love for the St. Louis Cardinals, her children, Mr. Kanoya and her Marissa. She filled the room with genuine kindness wherever she went and was a friend to all. We miss and love you Mrs. Kanoya but know you are at peace. With love & respect always, The Tao Family
Thoughts and prayers from the Sutherland Family in Frisco, TX.
Clare was always known around my house as “my St. Louis mom” and I am so happy to have had the chance to spend time with her over the years.
Claire was respected by the teachers of Sorrento Springs where Tyson and Justin attended elementary school. Probably we can say that she was most appreciated when she appeared before the Parkway School Board to speak on behalf of our principal, Dr. John Morris.
