Dale Carroll

Dale Carroll passed away peacefully at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024.  Dale was surrounded by his close family during his final hours, listening to his favorite Perry Como songs.
Dale was born February 24, 1942 in St. Louis, MO to Georgette (Pat) and Joseph Carroll.  Dale was one of three Carroll boys, his older brother Neil, and younger brother Patrick.  As a child, Dale was remembered as a “cut up” who looked out for his brothers, and always honored his parents.
After graduating from Riverview Gardens High School, Dale enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960.  Upon completing his Naval training in San Diego (with a quick stop off at Disney Land) Dale set out for the blue waters of the South Pacific.  As a Storekeeper Third Class (SK3) on the USS Black (DD-666) and the USS Porterfield (DD-682) Dale toured through Hawaii, Philippines, Hong Kong, and various ports of Japan.  It was during these tours that he fell in love with the Pacific Ocean and the Islands of Hawaii.  Dale reflected fondly on his service in the Navy, and always loved sharing his experiences about these early days.
After his return State-Side, Dale established a family and a successful Sales career in St. Louis.  Dale traveled all throughout the country, setting up Trade Shows, all while making life-long friends from coast to coast.  He continued to raise his station, and was elected as the Mayor of the St. Louis municipality of Norwood Court.  After his retirement Dale continued to work at the St. Louis VA Medical Center – Jefferson Barracks…serving his fellow Military Veterans.
Dale knew no stranger.  He loved to strike up a conversation, and always made a new friend.  He was a generous listener.  He was always excited to hear your story.  If you were one of the lucky ones, you would have found yourself down at O.T. Hodge Chili Parlor, listening to Dale share stories about “Hong Kong Sam” while he offered to share his Chili Slinger with you.
Dale loved Maui, Hawaii and had a lifelong connection to the Islands of Hawaii.  Every trip he took he would always leave a bit of himself behind, to one day come back for.  Dale was also a student of 19th Century Military History, and an avid reader.  If he wasn’t reading a military history book, he was enjoying a Fictional Spy Thriller.  As a photography and videography hobbyist, Dale was always the unofficial man behind the camera at all family events.  He always wanted to capture the milestones of his life, and would fondly reflect back on them.
People all around the Country and the World have shared experiences with Dale Carroll.  He was a man that read stories, told stories, but most importantly…made his own stories along the way, for the rest of us to tell.
Service:  Dale T. Carroll will be interned with Full Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  For additional information regarding the attendance of this private memoriam please contact dalecarrollcelebration@gmail.com.

I and my wife (Julie) were so sorry to hear of Dale’s passing. We knew him for years as residents of The Oaks Subdivision in Imperial. I was a long time Trustee of the subdivision with Dale and got to know him a bit and we spoke often on a wide variety of subjects. His experiences from Norwood Court and mine as a former police officer with SLPD gave us plenty of stories to swap and to draw from when responding to neighborhood issues. He was always someone I respected and shall miss him. I am truly proud that I could call him my friend.

    Sincerely,
    Rick Newberry

  3. Thieves among us stole from Dale on November 27, 2024 at 5:42 am

Dale had 3 kids, Thomas, Dana and Lindy. Dale was surrounded by grifters close to him who stole from him in the end, he didn’t know. If he did know, he’d be extremely dissapointed. They took from him their whole lives. His kids are ok, they are strong and are used to getting through, the people who stole from them as well as Dale are thieves, and always will be. The thieves came across as caring people, but just did enough to get close to him and take his family for all they could. The long grift was on and he and his real family were the “marks”. Dale can Rest In Peace now, he lived a life of abuse by many.
