Delores Bengson
Delores Jean (Gard) Bengson, 89 years old, resident of Delmar Gardens West in Town and County, Missouri, passed away on September 30, 2013, at Missouri Baptist Medical.
Born July 27, 1924, in Linden, Wisconsin, to parents James and Cecelia (Loechler) Gard. She moved to Round Lake Park, IL in 1948, with husband Elliot S. Zipler. Delores lived in Round Lake Park most of her adult life, where she raised her six children. Delores was a working mom who spent most of her career in the senior living industry, giving aid to residents, in assisted living and health care, at Winchester House in Libertyville, Illinois.
In December 1973, she left her position with Winchester house to marry Walter C. Bengson, former mayor of Round Lake Park. They were happily married until Walter’s death in 1983.
Surviving Delores are her children: Barbara (Dick) Bashford, Knoxville, TN; James (Theresa) Zipler, Tampa, FL; Larry (Linda) Zipler, Millington, TN; Karen (Norm) Harriman, Chesterfield, MO; Timothy (Candy) Bengson, Chesterfield, MO; and grandchildren: Kathleen (Brandt)Weller (Knoxville, TN); Christine (Brandt) Strzelcyk (Los Angeles, CA); Barbara (Zipler) Kruning & Michael Zipler (Ludwigsburg, Germany); Brian Zipler (Denver, CO); Harley Zipler (Gillette, WY); Melanie Zipler Maples (Westfork, GA); Larry Zipler II & Lazarus Zipler (Memphis, TN); Derrick Harriman (Southaven, MS); Ethan, Evan & Ian Bengson (Chesterfield, MO).
Preceding Delores in death are: parents, Jim & Cecelia Gard; her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Bob Gnarro; her son, Bruce David Zipler; her first husband, Elliot Zipler; mother-in-law, Anne Zipler; second husband, Walter C. Bengson.
To respect Delores’s wishes, the private memorial service will take place later in Round Lake, IL. And, because of her long-timer tie to compassionate care for seniors and love of dogs, memorial gifts may be made online to Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America’s (PresbyterianManors.org) or a dog rescue organization of your choice.

“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21-23
Sincerely, The Oennings

So sorry to hear of your loss. I’m sharing one of my favorite poems with you. Hope this comforts you as much as it does for me.
My life is but a weaving
Between the Lord and me;
I may not choose the colors–
He knows what they should be.
For He can view the pattern
Upon the upper side
While I can see it only
On this, the under side.
Sometimes He weaves in sorrow,
Which seems so strange to me;
But I will trust His judgment
And work on faithfully.
‘Tis He who fills the shuttle,
And He knows what is best;
So I shall weave in earnest,
And leave to Him the rest.
Not ’til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needed
In the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Have many fond memories of Aunt Dodo. The memories will live in us all the holidays with the cousins and Aunt DoDo’s mashed potatoes. May she now be at peace and join those who have gone before her. Rest in peace.
Karen, Thinking of you at this time. When parents die, there is a large hole in our lives. The person who accepts you, “no matter what”, is not there. That “hole” in our lives helps us to keep remembering them. Thinking of you. Connie Wood
