Dolores Mae Reason

October 20, 1937 ~ October 24, 2017

Dolores Mae Reason was born to the union of Elliott Straughan and Faye Maples on October 20, 1937 in Farmington, MO. She was the second of three children.

Her father, mother, and older brother, Franklin, preceded her in death.

Dolores attended St. Francois County Grade School and graduated from Farmington High School in 1953. Her hobbies included the 4H Club, Glee Club, bowling, and reading.

Dolores moved to St. Louis, MO in 1956 to pursue an Accounting degree from Stanford University. Her accounting career would then span five decades. Dolores gave birth to her pride and joy, Robert Joseph Straughan, in August of 1958. As a single parent, she did various accounting jobs until 1967. Dolores was united in Holy Matrimony to Curtis Reason in October of 1961. He also preceded her in death.

Dolores began working at INTRAV under the direction of Barney Ebsworth, where she spent her whole career, some 37 years, as an accountant. Her time at Intrav allowed her to pursue her passion- traveling! Her travels included Japan, Africa, South America, and China, capturing every moment of her experiences on film.

In 1985, Dolores and her son, Bobby, established Southside General Store. Dolores retired from Intrav in 2004. She then started working for Paul and Wendy Hamilton at PW Pizza as head accountant, a business that grew to be a St. Louis brand. In addition, Dolores did accounting and tax preparation for several other businesses and individuals until her passing. She was also an avid Cardinals fan.

Dolores’ death was sudden and unexpected. She loved her Bobby unconditionally, as well as the rest of her family.

Dolores is survived by her son, Robert Joseph Straughan (Garcia); four grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Sylvie) of Warsaw, Indiana, Latron, Ashley, and Ziayana of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Russel Straughan (Terry) of Farmington, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Niyah, Claire, Robert III, and Laila; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
