Doris Turner Nelson

Doris Turner Nelson, 79, died September 30, 2016 of natural causes. Born in Greenville, South Carolina September 24, 1937 to Mr. Jesse and Annie Mae (nee White) Turner.

After graduating from Sterling High School she attended South Carolina State College majoring in Library Science. After graduation, she taught school for 1 year before marrying Captain Harry Nelson, Jr. and becoming a military wife. After settling in St. Louis, Missouri, she was employed by East St. Louis Illinois school system where she retired.

She enjoyed bingo, casinos, music and traveling. She was very independent raising her three children to love the Lord and value education.

Doris Nelson is survived by her sister Betty Lett of Washington D.C.; her children Christopher, Honolulu, Hawaii, Angela, Columbus, Ohio and Harry III (Denise Peters), St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren Emily and Alexander, St. Louis, MO; she is also mourned by other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Annie Mae Turner, sister Wenoka Battle and brother June Turner, Jr.

Memorial service will be held Monday, November 21, 2016 at St. Louis Cremation 2135 Chouteau Ave. St. Louis, MO 63103 3:00 – 5:00 PM.
