Dr. Howard Raymond Warner passed away on March 31, 2023 in St. Louis, Missouri. His 88 years were blessed by service to country, church and family. 

Howard was born in Point Marion, Pennsylvania and spent his youth with his parents and sister, Becky, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where he was active in Boy Scouts, played the violin and ran track and field. 

Howard attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He joined the United States Navy and was a Naval Aviator from 1956 to 1959. During this time he married his college sweetheart, Judith, and they moved to Pittsburgh after his active service. Howard and Judith had two children, Barbara and Robert. 

While they were young, Howard worked to earn degrees in Metallurgy Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University and graduated with his Masters in 1965 and his PhD in 1967. He was the recipient of the Atomic Energy Commission Doctoral Fellowship. He was very involved in the academic community and was a member of Acacia Fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Phi and Lambda Upsilon honorary societies. He was also a member of the American Society of Metals, the Metals American Nuclear Society, the American Association of the Advancement of Science and the American Ceramic Society.  

After completing his studies, Howard spent his career working at Bettis Atomic Power Lab, Westinghouse, and as an advisor to the Naval Nuclear Power School in Vallejo, California. Howard and Judith spent their family time together skiing, sailing, and traveling. When at home, they were active members of Baldwin Community Methodist Church where Howard served as President of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Finance Committee and was a choir member. He loved music and attended the symphony every chance he had. He also served as the Boy Scout Committee Chairman for the greater community. 

In retirement, Howard and Judy continued to travel and explored all around the world as well as in the States. They thoroughly loved and enjoyed their two granddaughters and, in their later years, their great grandchildren. In 2016 they moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be closer to their daughter, Barbara. They made many new friendships while living in the Delmar Garden Villas and greatly enjoyed the entertainment, dining, and wonderful company during this chapter of their lives. Howard was laid to rest alongside his wife in Pittsburgh, PA by a military honor guard, family, and longtime friends. 

Howard is predeceased in death by his wife Judith and son Robert. He is survived by his sister Becky Cope and her husband, Ed, daughter, Barbara Newby and her husband, Gregory, grandchildren Jennifer Gardner (Jeremiah) and Lindsay Laster (Kyle), and their great grandchildren, Adam, Matthias, Colton, Claire and Cadence.
