Life Reflections

Earlee Jordan (Big Momma) entered life May 5, 1942 in Hollandale, Mississippi to the proud parents of Louis Ruffin and Hattie B. Ruffin (Norwood). She was the fourth child and both parents preceded her in death. Earlee and Frank Jordan tied the knot at a young age. Big Momma was an intelligent, and creative woman of great words. She enjoyed word puzzles and writing short stories, and poems. She often demonstrated her word skills while beating you multiple times in Scrabble. After living in various cities in Mississippi she decided to move to Brooklyn, New York in 1969. She found Brooklyn to be exciting and busy. While in New York she worked as a cook in numerous restaurants where she learned how to read by corresponding orders to what waitresses called out. She also worked as a seamstress and earned extra cash by making quilts for locals. Her friends and family also enjoyed her food especially her Southern Greens which included salt pork, smoked neck bones, and ham hocks.

Earlee was a tiny lady with a 57 Chevrolet. She loved people and enjoyed being amongst family. The love for her family grew when she relocated to St. Louis, Missouri to be with her daughter and grandchildren. The bond she formed with each of them can never be replaced or forgotten.

Our Big Momma leaves to mourn: her beloved daughter Erlene Moore, grand children Sharita Jordan –Cole (Terry Cole), Marlyce Moore (DeShon Cole). Four great grandchildren Iesha Cole, Terry Cole lll, Deja Cole, and Aydan Cole. One great great granddaughter Jordyn Cole. Her ever faithful siblings Clyde Ruffin, James Jordan, Clarence Allen, Sandra Allen, Shirley Allen, and Mary Allen. She will be laid to rest with both parents, her sister Martha Ruffin, Frank Ruffin, Rufus Ruffin, Flute Ruffin, and Leonard Norwood.

Farewell Big Momma/Lil Momma

You would always say how proud you were of your babies. Well Big Momma were proud of you and we promise to always do our best in everything we do. You taught us working hard pays off, how to clean, cook, and to love God. Lastly, she taught us how to be STRONG BLACK WOMEN. Until we met again we have enough memories to last us our lifetimes. We love you so much!

Honoring big mommas request she will not be having a funeral or wake. She is being cremated and by St. Louis Cremation and we will be having a celebration of Life PARTY March 11, 2017 at Metro Club House 2020 Patterson Rd. Florissant, MO 63031 from 1-5 pm. Invites are being mailed as this is an invite ONLY event. Please reach out to the family if you would like to attend, but haven’t received an invite.
