Edward Silver, 84, passed peacefully away on July 31, 2018. He is survived by his wife June (Happ). Leaving behind his children Patricia (Silver) Scott, Edward Mark and their spouses Wallace Scott and Oneda Silver. Ed was proud of his grandchildren Catherine (Scott) Bright, Sarah Scott and Nicholas Silver. He took great pride in his 4 great grandchildren, Keira (9), Olivia (7), Teagan (5) and Liam (4).

Ed took great satisfaction from his professional life as an electrical engineer for AT&T. He travelled extensively for his company. A frequent quote of his was “travelling made for a happy marriage” which must have a ring of truth as he was happily married to June for 64 years. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor.

Boating was Ed’s favorite sport. His handle was “Captain Silver”. Ed got into boating at an early age on the Atlantic Ocean as a boy. He even ventured out in a hurricane to help a fellow boater back into port. After being transferred for work to St. Louis, he bought an old wooden cabin cruiser on the river-his first boat, and named her the “Silver Queen”. In the late 70’s, he moved up to a 28-foot Marinette (after falling in love with a 38’ at the boat show). That was the “Off Limits” who had her name in the story on the Kinders Restaurant menu. In 1994, he found his dream boat for sale in KY a 38’ Marinette he renamed the “Silver Queen III”. He enjoyed Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley for a number of years and then in Nov 1995 brought her to Alton Marina by river. 10 years later he sold that

boat to his daughter Patricia where the happy family memories have continued.

Another interest was hockey. Especially the St. Louis Blues. He had the schedule hung right on his desk so he wouldn’t ever miss a game. He became a fan back in 1942 when there were only 4 National Hockey teams.

Swimming was another sport Ed excelled at. Ed was captain of his swim team in high school at Demarest High in Jersey City, New Jersey. Ed encouraged his children, grandchildren and even his great grandchildren to participate in the sport and could often be found at their meets cheering from the sidelines.

There will be a small family only service and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either one of Ed’s favorite charities; American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
