Elizabeth Lily Haug

Elizabeth Lily Haug (nee Stevenson) was born on February 20, 1937 in Belfast Northern Ireland, UK. She was the daughter of David and Catherine Stevenson. Unfortunately her father died a few months after she was born and Lily (as she was known to her family) was raised by her young 21-year-old mother, Catherine. Upon turning 21, Elizabeth traveled to the US to visit an Aunt in Philadelphia. There she met her soon to be husband, Herbert Haug, on a blind date. They were married in 1959 and went on to raise their 4 children together.

Elizabeth (Liz) was a natural musician, singer, dancer and entertainer. She was an avid tap dancer, could play any song on the piano and had a beautiful singing voice. She sang and danced with several dance and choral groups (The Joyful Notes) entertaining crowds all over the St. Louis area right up until the end. Elizabeth was also an excellent ballroom dancer. She loved to be on the dance floor with her partner. She was a natural and said it always gave her a special connection to her father, who was known to be a good dancer. Elizabeth found so much joy spending time with her 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was always very active, planning activities, luncheons and wonderful trips with her family and friends.  She was very fortunate to have so many lovely friends that she cared about so much, and Mel Wiltsch, her loving companion for more than 20 years.  They did so many things they loved together. She especially loved sitting and watching the ocean as it was one of her most favorite places to be.

Elizabeth is survived by her four children, Steven Haug (Lisa), Christine Kelly (Patrick), Catherine Mickelson, and Heather Haug; grandchildren, Katie Fuchs (Chris), Blake Billington (Hannah), Shane Billington, Andrew Haug, Stephanie Asel (Shane), Matthew Haug, Anna Leonard and Max Leonard and her three great grandchildren, Aubrey Fuchs, Ava Billington and Fin Asel. Please join us for a Celebration of Life service for Elizabeth at 11am on Friday, May 5th, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 15764 Clayton Road, Ellisville, Mo. 63011. The service will be live streamed for those that will not be able to attend in person, reception to follow.

    Hello family,
On behalf of my mom, (Aunt Vi) and my brother Eric, my husband David , and your cousins from the Philadelpia area, we send our deepest sympathies for the lost of Lillian.
There are so many memories I have of growing up and being with Aunt Lillian in my younger years. One Christmas memory I have- I wanted a Barbie doll in the worst way and my mom wouldn’t allow it. My mom thought Barbie had to much shape for a young girl of 10 to play with. So to my happy surprise , I opened the Christmas gift that was wrapped so festive from Aunt Lillian and Uncle Herb and there was Barbie. I thought Aunt Lillian was the best for getting it for me . I remember running to her and hugging her and thanking her like 100 times. Don’t know if I ever told her that story but I remember it like it was yesterday.
Sorry we will not be at the service but we will be there in spirit. Sending you all hugs.

Lillian & Herb were our closest Pawling Circle friends. We raised our children together & shared so many wonderful times. Lillian always wanted our girls to enjoy lunch & playtime at her house. She was the perfect mom that we all envied. I introduced her to my nursing classmates who also fell in love with this beautiful Irish lady. Rich & I will always cherish the Haug family memories & feel blessed to have known Lillian .
Our sympathy & love to Chris,Steven, Catherine, Heather & family

What a wonderful tribute for my dear friend Liz. We have been friends about twenty five years. We met in a tap dance class at St. Luke’s and when I told her about our singing group (now the Joyful Notes) immediately she wanted to know how to join and we have been singing and ballroom dancing together ever since. I will miss her very much.

My condolences to all the family.

Liz and I tap danced together for a few years where we got to know each other. She never missed sending a Christmas or Easter e-card. Liz was a dear person.

Liz was always a delight to have in dance class. We shared quite a few years and lots of fun and hard work on our shows. She also added her lovely singing voice to many of them. May she rest in peace!

I worked alongside Elizabeth for 15 years and she made every day fun. I remember her singing along to the radio as she typed the doctor’s dictation 😊 I too picture her singing and dancing into eternity. Had some fun busittrips with her too, particularly waiting on flights at the airport where we would people watch and she would figure out (or make up) people’s life situations. She was a joy and she left a great legacy for her family. Love to you all!

I also worked with Elizabeth. She was a hoot. Sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to my ‘old’ neighbors for the loss of your mother/grandmother. We all met 52 years ago but it seems like yesterday. Grateful for the childhood memories and the more recent ones of Mrs. Haug coming to Mom and Dad’s house on Christmas Eve.

Debbie (Snell) Dismang aka ‘Debbie Next Door’ ♥️
