Eugene Thomas Moriarty

Eugene Thomas Moriarty, age 93, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2018. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

In 1925, Gene was born to Caroline and Wallace Moriarty. Growing up, he loved fishing and going on picnics with his parents and brother, Bob. After his mother passed, his father remarried, and for many years Gene enjoyed a close relationship with his stepmother, Loretta Moriarty.

In 1957, he married Betty O’Bryan, and they went on to have six children: Sue Rhoades, Ann Moriarty Nordman, Dan Moriarty, Jim Moriarty, Carolyn Moriarty Jackson and Jeanne Moriarty.

Gene lived a long life full of many accomplishments, and always had a good story to tell: He traveled the world, served in World War II and eventually settled into a long career as an industrial engineer supervisor at both Ford and Chrysler.

He had a big sweet tooth and an even bigger personality. To know him was to love him, and Gene was notorious for making friends everywhere he went: restaurants, the VA and every golf course in the St. Louis area.

Above all else, Gene loved his family. He called Betty his best friend, and the two were happily married for 54 years, until her passing in 2011. Together, they built a life full of love and family. He’s still surrounded by family now, and there’s no question that he’s happy to be reunited with Betty, his daughters Carolyn and Jeanne, his brother Bob and his parents.

Gene is survived by four of his children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and friends.
