Harold Joseph Fischer, March 1, 1936 – April 24, 2016, age 80, passed away suddenly on Sunday. Harold leaves his wife, Norma Jean, brother, Norbert ‘Red’ Fischer (Pat), daughters, Vickie Webber (Jay), Kathy Rosner (Mark) and son Joe Fischer (Theresa). He also leaves his 8 grandchildren, Dustin, Casey, Chad, Brittany, Brandon, Garrett, Julia and Marissa.

A graduate of St. Louis University High School, Harold went on to join the Navy Reserve and then the Missouri Air National Guard for 36 years, working the motor pool, flight line maintenance and facilities management. Harold spent many a long night keeping the runways at Lambert Field open from snowstorms and foul weather. Never tiring or work brittle, he went on after retirement to work in Public Works Department at the City of St Peters for 15 years.

Harold was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all things outdoors. An excellent wing shot, Harold hosted many clay bird shoots at his farm for friends and family over the years, sometime throwing off so he didn’t beat us so badly…

He enjoyed many deer and turkey seasons in the Missouri woods, always the sportsman and always exemplary harvester. He taught many outdoor skills to his children and grandchildren. Harold also loved trout fishing especially with his family.

Long tenured President of the Lambert Field Rod & Gun Club, Harold was a founding member when the club was originated after the Berlin Crisis Airlift in 1961. Many club events were enjoyed by members over the years including fishing, shooting sports, Clean Stream participation, BBQ’s, meat shoots, float trips, etc. all facilitated in whole or in part by Harold.

As much a part of his life was his bowling, particularly in his younger years. He holds many trophies and rings as a result of his abilities. Harold threw two 300 score ( Perfect) games and many 299, 298 and 297’s, earning him the title of “Iceman” as a result of his coolness under pressure.

Harold was the perfect example of what a husband, father, grandfather and friend should be. He tirelessly thought about and cared for his wife, family and friends. We will all miss him as he meant so much to so many people… Heaven just got a lot better!!

A visitation will be held Thursday, 4-28-16 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 10:00 am with a Mass to follow at 11:00am. The Church address is 2 Seton Court, St Charles MO 63303.

Burial with Honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will take place, Friday, April 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Please arrive 15 minutes early for procession.
