Gary Herberts
Gary Ralph Herberts entered into rest on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the age of 68. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 12, 1951. Gary was a graduate of Salem Lutheran School, Bayless High School, and the University of Missouri – Columbia where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 in business administration. After graduation he worked 28 years for Trans World Airlines and nine years for Citi Group until his retirement in 2013. In retirement Gary worked part time to stay active at St. Louis University Hospitals and at Dierbergs Markets.
Gary was the beloved son of Georgia Herberts and preceded in death by his father Stanley Herberts.
Gary was the dear brother and brother-in-law of Cara Russell, John Russell, Lynn Etling and Richard Herberts.
Gary was the dear uncle of Nichole Russell, Stephanie Aubuchon (Jason), Rob Etling (Leslie) and Michael Etling (Alicia).
Gary was the dear great uncle of Nathan, Gabe, Isabella, Landon, Evan, Nolan, Alex and Caroline.
Gary was also a beloved cousin and friend to many, many people he met during his lifetime.
Gary enjoyed hanging out with friends and family and was quick with a smile and laugh. He also supported and enjoyed the St. Louis Symphony and attending plays at the Fox and other theatres in the St. Louis area. Gary enjoyed a drink of Scotch or his Red Wine. He also cherished the time he spent with his great nieces and nephews.
At Gary’s request there are no funeral / memorial services planned. This is in accordance with Gary’s final wishes.
Our son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend will be greatly missed.

Gary was a great friend. I met him the day I moved to Saint Louis, 31 years ago. He lived in the same building as I moved into and we became fast friends. We had many, many good times together over the years and I will really miss him no longer being here.
Gary was always such a good man, gracious, kind and more so funny as can be. He was such a pleasure to be around. Seeing him recently as sick as he was, he was delightful.
You will be missed in so many ways Gary.

I called Gary on Saturday and cannot believe this. I worked with Gary at Dierbergs. He and I became friends right away. I miss him so much. He will live on in my heart forever. Go ahead and raise a glass of wine for Gary. RIP my friend.
I have know Gary for about 30 years. We hung out together over the years on and off at the Front Page. A group of us frequented this bar in Soulard. We always had such a great time and Gary was a big part of it. I just saw him a few months ago at a party this Summer and chatted for a while. Gary and I shared a birthday and always touched base then. He will be greatly missed! Tyler Olsen
I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I had met Gary in the ‘80’s through mutual friends. We’d play Trivial Pursuit and laugh a lot. He was truly a dear sweet man. Please accept my condolences.
This was such a shock to me. I had reconnected with Gary in 2019 after 33 years and we had dinner twice while I visited St. Louis. He was always a lot of fun to be around. His place was beautiful and he was proud of it.
So sad I had lost contact with Gary and just thought about his today and found he had pasted. We met over the phone when he worked for TWA and I was a travel agent. This was back when phone bookings ruled no computers to do all bookings! We became phone friends and found we had a lot in common and he went to school here in Columbia. Arranged to meet him at his call center for lunch and the friendship continued until his retirement and we lost track of each other. So sad he was a really nice person.
