Gerald Thomas Scherrer
Gerald Thomas Scherrer – Born May 25, 1958 to Francis (Bud) and Doris Scherrer nee Gardiner He was the fifth of six children. Brother Michael Scherrer (Juanita -deceased), Sisters: Diane Scherrer, Susan Hicks (Brad), Linda Sharpe (Bill). Jerry was preceded in death by his sister Janet Gasper. (Gerry)
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father in law, brother, brother in law, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a hard worker in a time where it was a honorable career.
He and Pam celebrated 45 years of marriage in September and have two children Kyle Gerard Scherrer and Laura Christine Goddard (Matthew). Jerry loved his children and family. He was a proud “papa” to his five grandchildren Brock Nicholas and Dane Thomas Scherrer. Braelyn Lee, Auriana Kay, and Reagan Fay Goddard. Jerry was their biggest fan and enjoyed spending time with each of them. He looked forward to their calls and visits; just listening to their stories about school, sports, or the best part of their day warmed his heart and made him smile.
He retired from the Construction Laborer’s Local 110 in 2013. He took some time off and then decided to work for St. Louis County Parks. He worked at Creve Coeur Park. He was a friend and mentor to many throughout his career.
Hockey was his favorite sport, he played defense and that innate “defensive nature” was passed down to Kyle, Brock, and Dane, who all play “D” on their teams, just like him. Once a hockey family – always a hockey family. We all enjoyed the game, Jerry played, coached and cheered on the boys. He also enjoyed yelling at a Blues game on T.V. trying to motivate the team.
He loved nature, tractors, and helping on friends’ farms. He was an avid hunter for years. He later enjoyed competitive CMP Vintage Rifle matches and NRA HP rifle matches and was member of the Owensville Gun Club. He participated in many competitions locally and nationally.
Jerry suffered a rare stroke in September of 2020 and defied the odds. He was blessed to have family and friends who faithfully cared for him, at home, since the stroke. While the stroke took many of his abilities but God blessed him with a grateful heart and a sense of humor. He never complained. A special thanks to our dear friends Ricky, Corri Payton; Dave, Sue Domian; Barb Weber; Joe-Julie Buffalo and the many others who were there for him/us the past few years, Thanks to the therapists who worked with him and to the caregivers/aides who lovingly cared for him the past couple of years.
