Gertrude McFather

IN LOVING MEMORY “GERTRUDE MCFATHER”

Gertrude was born September 22, 1954. If you ever had the chance to meet her, you would say there was no one like her. She attended St. Henry’s Catholic School and Immaculate Conception Grade School. She later attended and graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School. She went on to attend Forest Park College as well as Missouri College where she obtained her degree. After working at State Hospital for thirty-eight years, Gertrude finally decided to retire. For those who knew Gertrude, she always had more than one job. She worked at Des Peres Hospital, her second place of employment, for many years before finally retiring from there as well. During the holiday seasons you would occasionally see her working at Famous Barr downtown. For those who didn’t know, this was her third job.

Gertrude had a great sense of humor, and she never missed an opportunity to try and make you laugh. She worked all of the time, but she found humor in the work she did and formed close relationships with the people she worked with. She enjoyed life. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting and spending time with close family and friends. Her trips were epic, and the chocolates she brought back were divine.

She leaves behind her mother, brother, two sisters, a brother-in-law, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who truly loved her and will dearly miss her.

Very sorry for your families loss. I knew Gertrude from St Louis State Hospital. I later ran into her when my father was a patient at DesPere Hospital.
