Gracie Lynn West

Amazing Gracie Lynn West was granted her angel wings on April 30, 2016. Gracie was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 while in utero and her parents were told they would never meet her. Born on December 5, 2014, she had three major surgeries and countless hospitalizations since birth, but she fought with amazing grace through it all for almost 17 months. Her loyal prayer warriors continue to be inspired by her strength.

Gracie touched so many in her short, yet very memorable life. Although it would seem too short to many, those who were touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which she lived. Her gentle smile could melt the hearts of anyone, whether across the miles through a picture, or in the same room. Although she never spoke a word, her voice and thoughts could always be heard.

Gracie possessed strength, perseverance and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. She earned her warrior status before she blessed us with her presence; the entire time she was with us and even as she got her wings. With her courage she reminded us that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. With Gracie’s transition, we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated.

Although we miss her everyday, especially her incredible smile, she will forever remain in our hearts. Through her journey, we were able to create wonderful memories and it has been a privilege to be her parents. Gracie‘s sister Bella and brother Gavin cherished their time with her.

Gracie leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced her quality of life. Gracie’s love extends to her wonderful nurses, therapist, doctors and friends. She will be dearly missed by all her special caregivers at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, Nepute Wellness Center, First Steps Program and Mercy Hospital, and her many close friends and family, and friends across the world. All of these special people, too numerous to mention, provided Gracie with love and support.

Gracie is survived by her loving parents, Jody & Chris West, sister Bella, brother Gavin; godmother Emilee West, maternal grandparents Patty Grizzel and Sharon Grizzel, paternal grandmother Ruth West. Equally important are special friends and family…

A Celebration of Life event is to be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 12pm to 4pm, with visiting hour at 11am that same day at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, 1465 South Grand Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63104 in Danis Auditorium.
