James Eldon McNeely
James Eldon McNeely, 59, died of a heart attack on December 11, 2016 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Jamee; his step-son Christopher; his sisters Mary, Joyce and Linda; his brother Doug and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his step-son John; and his brother John.
Jim was born on January 13, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents James and Roberta.
Throughout Jim’s life, he devoted his working hours to the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic, General Motors, Historic St. Charles as the Trolly Tour Guide, and Local 39 Decorators Union.
Jim was above all else, a loving father. He was also a very social, active man who was deeply involved in Greater St. Louis NORML and support groups for recovering addicts. Jim ran for several Missouri Government positions such as Alderman and Mayor for the Green Party.
He enjoyed working on his cars and remodeling his home, boating, and was notorious for just hopping in the car and going wherever the wind took him, whether it be for a visit to his daughter or to Joplin, Missouri to assist in post tornado clean-up. His family and friends will always remember him as a self-less man who’d give a stranger the only shirt on his back with a smile and laugh that could light up a room.
A memorial is scheduled for 2 p.m. – 5 p. m. on Friday, December 23 at St. Louis Cremations; 2135 Chouteau Ave. St. Louis, Missouri 63103. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life.
Jim, Andy Klumpp & I went to a St. Louis Cardinals game together in the summer of 2011. I know Jim was a very important person in my son’s life and he will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Jim and my condolences are with all of his family and friends.
