Jeffrey L. Finkel
We celebrate Jeff as a generous, thoughtful, fun loving person who had an impact on so many in his 71 years of life.
Jeffrey Leigh Finkel of Double Oak, Texas (Dallas area) was born in St Louis on January 6, 1951 to Beatrice Lillian Finkel and Barney William Finkel. He passed away in St. Louis on November 8, 2022 following a hemorrhagic stroke on October 30. He was in a coma and never regained consciousness.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Wild. They were sweethearts since the age of 16 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in August of this year. They have two daughters and three grandchildren. Daughter Katie Finkel Wing lives in Buda, TX (near Austin) and Kimberly Finkel Davis resides in Kyle with her husband Scott Davis and their three precious children: Hattie, age 7, Dean, 5, and Evan, 2. The grandchildren made Jeff a very proud Papa.
He is also survived by his siblings, Jan Schweitzer and her husband John of Johnson City, TN, Michael Finkel and wife Dina Sewell of Naples, Florida, and Brian Finkel of Phoenix, AZ. His brother Barry Finkel preceded him in death in 2014. He also was Uncle Jeff to numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeff achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Jeff graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis in 1969 and the University of Missouri in 1973 with his degree in Business. He started his career in healthcare in hospital supply sales and executive management in St Louis, San Francisco, Houston, Denver and Dallas where he was Senior Vice President of the Hospital Supply Division for Fox Meyer.
Jeff become a partner of Dallas Yellow Cab in 1989 and remained involved with the company and the transportation industry.
Jeff loved to travel and was pleased to have visited all 50 states. He enjoyed international travel and especially enjoyed visiting Australia, his mother’s birthplace. He traveled throughout Europe and had just recently returned from Portugal three weeks before his stroke. He considered Pompano Beach, FL “his happy place” where he enjoyed the beautiful views and warm weather.
Jeff had survived a serious auto accident in 1991, a heart attack and quadruple bypass in 2014, lung issues, diabetes and severe back pain from which he had finally gotten relief. His medical issues were under control and he had been feeling great.
We’ll continue to remember Jeff as a large personality who loved to laugh and tell jokes. He had that special twinkle in his eye and a captivating smile. Jeff made a difference in so many of the lives he touched.
We will have a Celebration of Jeff’s Life on January 7 in Dallas.
