John Campbell Hill

John Campbell Hill (Jack, J.C., John C.) met his loved ones at the gates of Heaven on 6/30/23.

Beloved husband of Bonnie Jean Hill (Medley) for 64 years; devoted and loving father of Donna Denise Hill of Hermann, Missouri, Cheryl Hill McQuerry of Pacific, Missouri, Jacqueline Hill Brinkmeyer (married to William), of Wildwood, Missouri. Proud grandfather of Jack Adam, Morgan Nicole, and Zachary James McQuerry and of John Campbell and Alexis Laurence Brinkmeyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Hill and twin brother William.

J.C. was born, January 31, 1933, and spent the first twenty years of his life in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force were he proudly served as a technical instructor for the radar repair school, at Scott Air Force Base, in Illinois. Prior to, he served as an engineer/announcer on Armed Forces Radio (“AFR”) at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. While at AFR, he was privileged to meet and serve under the supervision of KMOX Radio announcer Robert (“Bob”) Hardy. Bob served as J.C.’s best man at Bonnie and J.C.’s wedding.

It was while he was stationed at Scott Air Force Base that he met Bonnie, at a USO Dance. They were married on September 21, 1957.

In 1957, J.C. began a career as a manufacturer’s representative. He furthered his career by attending Washington University’s University College, achieving a certificate in Sales Management in June of 1964. He loved what he did and often said “a man who loves his job will never work a day in his life.” He cherished and appreciated his 65 years in the business, where he met lifelong friends while calling on McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Company and Boeing.

For 37 years, he enjoyed spending time with his family, at their A-Frame at Innsbrook. In 2011 it was sold and replaced by 250 acres of recreational farmland in Hermann, Missouri. A 24-acre lake was built and stocked with largemouth bass, blue gill, and catfish. One of his favorite past times, other than spending time with family, was fishing with Britt Hart and the many outdoorsmen who shared that love.

He also enjoyed spending time supporting the St. Louis Rams, specifically tailgating with friends on their converted school bus. He was passionate about many philanthropic activities including West County Kiwanis and Ronald McDonald House where he especially loved playing Santa during the holiday season.  He and Bonnie also participated in the Ronald McDonald House Meal Plan monthly. J.C. was a devout Lutheran and was thankful for the many relationships he developed through his faith. In their younger years JC & Bonnie enjoyed socializing and skiing with friends from Kanski, a social group from the Kansas City area.

J.C. loved to hear or tell a joke, usually having one for every occasion. He will be dearly missed by friends and family, but his favorite saying “every day a holiday, every meal a banquet” will remain.
