John Francis Kepka

John Francis Kepka, 72, of Cedar Hill, passed away October 1, 2018 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, surrounded by the love and support of his family.

He was born on May 25, 1946 to Tillie and John Kepka in Chicago, Il. He attended St. Mel’s High School, graduating in 1963. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

He married Michaela Anne Penski on November 17, 1979 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in House Springs, MO. They had 2 children, Katharine (Katy) and John Paul (J.P.). In later years he worked as a commodity broker.

John was an avid fly fisherman, and his hobbies included pen making, building fly rods and tying flies. He also enjoyed baking and would strive to find the perfect recipe for a Czech dumpling, houska, or kolacky. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Branson on their annual fishing trip and going to Silver Dollar City. He loved watching and supporting his children during their time as short track speed skaters. He was looking forward to another trip to Florida to vacation with his family. He and his wife enjoyed spending their retirement in Cedar Hill, MO.

John is survived by his wife, Michaela; his children Katy (Adam) and J.P. (Caroline); and grandchildren Joanna, Luke, and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Tillie Kepka.

Per John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was extremely proud of his children. We will miss hearing all of his stories and having his shoulder to lean on.

In memory, donations may be made to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital to support research for cardiac amyloidosis. https://giving.brighamandwomens.org/give1

Dear Kepka family, I am sorry to hear of John’s passing and the loss of such a wonderful man. He adored Michaela and was so proud of his children. As an employee, he was the standard that all others were compared to. Everyone loved working with him and he was willing to help anyone in need.
And oh how we loved when he brought his cooking up to the store. I pray for your comfort during this time.
