Joseph E. Spies Jr.

Joseph E. Spies Jr., a resident of Oakville, MO passed away peacefully Friday, September 22nd at Degreef Hospice House. He was born on October 2, 1959 in St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Edward Spies, Sr.

Joe (or Joey by his sisters) was a big man. Not only in his size, but in his generosity. He was the son of Joe and Eleanor Spies and big brother of Angie (Joe) Arcipowski and Mary (Mike) Hayes.  He was also Uncle to Andrew (Alyssa) Arcipowski, Jennifer (Jeff) Erhart, Kate (Nate) Fortenberry and Ryan Hayes.

Joe attended college for a year and decided that it was not his future. He got on at Union Electric as a porter, became an electrician and eventually a Unit Operator at the Labadie plant.

He loved to buy things and more things. He was very generous to his family especially his nieces and nephews. Joe was a person who was there at the drop of a hat, if help was needed.

His life changed September 16, 2010 when he was in a horrible automobile accident. He had many broken bones and a myriad of other health issues stemming from that unfortunate event.  The next 13 years were spent healing and dealing with more pain than any of us can fathom. Through all of this he remained a wonderful son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.

He will be forever in our hearts.

Beautifully written. It’s truthful and spot on. Joey was fluffy and extremely gentle. He’s with the angels and no longer living in pain. May all the living smile in his memory.

Rest in Peace my Cousin, I will always remember you fondly and smile when I think of the times that we were together. Although we would only see each other infrequency each time was a pleasure to be able to catch up on each other’s endeavors. You could always count on a smile and a kind word and an interesting conversation when you’d see him….. God Bless, and may the Lord greet you with his love……..
