Katherine Bender Hoyer
Katherine Bender Hoyer (102) died at her home in St. Louis on April 20, 2021. An accomplished musician, she graduated from the St. Louis Institute of Music in 1946 with a Bachelor’s of Music in Voice. She served as soprano soloist and piano accompanist for many years with the St. Louis Bach Society, and studied oratorio with Isobel Baillie in London, England.
In later years, she sang with the Christ Church Cathedral Choir and the Ronald Arnatt Chorus, and directed the St. George’s Choir at the Church of St. Michael and St. George in Clayton. She was a well-beloved piano and voice teacher for most of her life.
Married to John Henry Hoyer from December 31, 1953 to his death in 2011, she leaves four children, Gillean (Richard Wilsak), Karen (Richard Gage), Kathie (Ruben Barrios), Geoffrey (Sue Greenlee) and six grandchildren; Sally Wilsak, Dan Wilsak (Roslyn Bloome), Jackson Gage, Lucie Barrios, Geneva Gage, and Alex Hoyer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
