Laurie Ann Meier

Laurie Ann Meier, 61, went home to the Lord on March 13, 2024 surrounded by loved ones after  a months long battle with Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Known for her heart of gold, Laurie spent her life in service to others. Whether with Cardinals  Care, where she sold 50-50 raffle tickets at games, bingo nights at St. Marks, which she helped  run for over 10 years, working in a soup kitchen in her limited free time or simply giving her time  and energy to those around her.

Bitten by the travel bug at a young age, Laurie loved exploring the world around her. She visited  all 50 U.S. states as well as England, Scotland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Romania,  often accompanied by her twin sister the late Linda Meier.

A lover of all things games and sports, Laurie rarely missed a Cardinals game and often  traveled to see her nieces and nephews play/perform in their respective activities. She had  weekly card nights with friends and kept everyone in her life supplied with ample amounts of  See’s candy. She spent her career helping uniform teams and athletes with her work at Johnny  Mac’s Sporting Goods, BSN and Winning Streak, but also gave of herself by working retail jobs  at McDonalds (where she met life long friend the late Mary Norris), See’s Candy and  Blockbuster.

She was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church volunteering in many ministries in the  life of the church.

She is survived by her mother Carole Meier; brothers Richard Meier (Judy) and Robert Meier  (Janice); nieces Kayla, Cassidy and Jordan Meier (Jack); nephew Jacob Meier (Savannah); and  goddaughters Olivia Gray (Dawson), Emma Norris and Katie Bertel.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister Linda Meier; father Gunther Meier; best friends  Mary and Jeff Norris; and grandparents Virginia Fisk Polen, Adolph Meier and Richard & Helen  Jamison.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Laboure,  visitation starting at 10 a.m., lunch to follow mass at the house of Carole Meier.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Laurie’s name to one of the following charities or a  charity of your choice: CARDINAL’S CARE (stlcardinals.com/community), HOPE COMMUNITY  PROJECT (hopecommunityproject.org), STS. PETER & PAUL COMMUNITY SERVICES

Laurie was an earthbound angel to so many people. She has been my best friend for over 40 years. She was always a giver of her time and encouragement. Even though she knew her time on earth was short, she made it a point to make sure her loved ones knew she cared. There were lots of tears on her final days. Some out of sadness for her lost battle to that horrible disease. Mostly the tears were because we knew we would never hear her voice , never go to a Cardinals game, or go to Disney World ever again. I know she will be with me in my heart forever. She is my best friend and my extra sister. She has been reunited with her twin, Linda, as evidenced by the double rainbow outside of the hospital the day of her passing. Rest now my friend. You are loved 💔💔💔

Laurie and her sister, Linda, were sisters #5 and #6 for our family. They were there at family functions for as long as I can remember. They and our sister, Kathy, were the Three Mouseketeers. Whether on their many trips to Disney World, the Cardinals’ functions, or just a family BBQ, they always showed up with smiling faces and their sense of fun! It was so hard saying goodbye to Linda a few years ago, but now they are together again, and I’m sure the fun level in heaven has just increased a hundred-fold!!! Thank you for being such close friends of our little sister, Kathy, and “adopted” sisters to our family. We will miss you. Watch over us, and pray for us, as we will for you. Your “big sister”, Michelle

My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. I was glad to have had them as neighbors growing up.

I remember all of the Youth and Young Adult Retreats that Laurie, along with her sister Linda, so graciously gave up weekends to cook for. They also helped welcome new people into the Church on Holy Saturdays as they served the reception after Mass. Laurie put her Faith into action so many times.
So many long visits, grilling, having dinner, watching shows, and playing cards over the years. Laurie is a “sister” of my heart and one of my closest friends and I will miss our times together.
I loved seeing you at 5:00 pm Mass when you joined St. Catherine Laboure Parish. Thank you for the honor of walking with you and praying with you and I’ll Catch you on the “flip side”. Rest in Peace.

I met Laurie in the 50/50 volunteer group for Cardinals Care. She was a breathe of sunshine every time she and I interacted. She will truly be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Laurie’s mother and brothers. I knew Laurie many years growing up, including Girl Scouts. Many fond memories. I know she will be missed by countless family and friends. My sincerest sympathy to all.

I met Laurie and her Mom the first time at the annual twinless twin support group international group that we both belonged to. It is a support group that supports twins that have lost their other half. Her contagious friendly smile could light up a room. Her mom Carole and her traveled to an area that i live in so we met for breakfast. At all of the yearly conferences, she was loved by all. Her time on earth here was short, just like her beloved twin sister “Linnie” as she liked to refer to her as. I am reminded by this- Everlasting life: It means when life ends here, it continues somewhere else. The Bible uses the phrase in a positive sense. It is a quality of life that begins on earth and continues in heaven. Fly high my twin friend Laurie, I know your twin met you at heavens gate so you could be at your final resting place with her.
