Max, whom Leland inherited at the time of his marriage and with whom he shared many White Castle hamburgers on the tailgate of his pickup truck!
Cody who quickly learned the boundaries of Leland’s prized garden, and was with us from six weeks of age to fifteen years.
And last, but not least, Champ! Adopted from a rescue at the age of four and was with us for nine years. He was Leland’s boy, and Champ loved him as much as a dog can possibly love a human.

The family wishes to thank the amazing team of medical professionals who cared for Leland. Dr. Roland Akinyede and Miss Velvet who were always there with necessary referrals, scripts and, most of all, compassion and encouragement. Dr. J. Daniel Cuevas and the incredible staff at St. Louis Cancer Care….these good people became a second family during the course of his treatment. Crossroads Hospice…..the dedicated staff ensured that he received the best possible care in his own home. “To all of these kind and caring people, the family offers its heartfelt gratitude”.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations to Peregrine Society or Stray Rescue.
Dear Joan, and family…we’re so very sorry that Lee lost his battle, but what a fighter he was! We enjoyed listening to his stories and Bob especially liked the talks with him about Western movies…Rest in peace, Lee, we’ll miss you
Thirty-six years was not enough time with you, my dear Leland. I will love you forever.
Condolences to Joan and family for your loss. I haven’t seen or talked to Leland for many years but the memories he left with me as a kid are etched in the burrows of my mind and always there for remembrance. RIP Leland and hope your transition from here to Heaven was peaceful.

My sympathy and prayers are with you and your family. May God, family and friends give you the strength during your time of sorrow. Sorry I can’t be there to give you a hug.
Dear Joan, I am so very sorry to hear that Leland has passed. Although I only met him a few times back in the days wen we worked together, I feel that I knew him from all the stories you told of the fun times you had camping, getting together with family, or just day to day home life. I could tell you two were meant for each other and shared a wonderful, loving life together.
He’s with his beloved dogs now, and all the family that passed before him.
You are in my thoughts and in my heart.
Love, Mary Ann
I was so touched to have been included in the family listings as I have been away so long. Growing up with Laurie and being part of our family is one of my fondest memories as a child. All of the Sunday dinners at Grandma and Grandpa’s, driving the adults crazy, pinochle games going on, it was very special time. I remember Uncle Leland as the quiet joker, always happy, and a great brother to my dad. I know everyone will miss him and have been a better person to have known him and spent time in his life. My sincere condolences and love for you all.
Sweet Joan , Words are so inadequate . But , my thoughts and prayers are with you and your wonderful family. May you all feel God’s arms around you in the days and months ahead .
So sorry to hear of Leland’s passing. He and my brother played music together in the 50’s and then re-connected in the 70’s for a couple of jam sessions. May God’s love surround Joan and all the family in this time of grief and loss.
My thoughts are with you and your family my friend. So very sorry for your loss.
