Lois Byrne
Lois M. (Myers) Byrne, age 96, peacefully passed away on February 13, 2015 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.F. “Bud” Byrne, a wonderful loving son Thomas M. Byrne, her parents Sidney and Lena (Adrian) Myers, siblings Lenice Myers, Geraldine (Myers) Klauer and Inez (Myers) Joyce.
Lois was born August 4, 1918 in Glenhaven Township, Wisconsin. She lived most of her life in Wisconsin, working as a beautician, retail sales, lab technician and homemaker. She moved to St. Louis in 1997, where she lived with her daughter for the past 18 years. She had multiple families, in Wisconsin and St. Louis, including her last family at NHC Healthcare of Maryland Heights, Missouri, where she had many friends and received very special loving care for the last 7 months of her life.
Lois will forever be remembered for her warmth and infectious smile, her loving eyes, her sense of style, her feisty and tenacious spirit and her always perfect lips and nails, ready for anything.
She was a woman of faith who loved her families and friends, gardening (especially roses), decorating, music, cooking, dancing, artistic projects and of course her ‘chocolate’!
Leaving behind and cherished by her children, Ed (Mary) Byrne, Timothy (Ginny) Byrne, Terri Byrne, her sister Betty Lou (Herb) Mergen, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. She will be missed infinitely!

My deepest sympathy for your loss of a very special person. May you treasure all the good experiences shared together as you hold on to the hope of being together again. Again my sincerest condolences.
What a perfect remembrance of a lovely woman! She was delightful and I will always think of her enjoying her “shrimp” and displaying her wonderful sense of humor at one of my visits. She was so fortunate to have such a loving daughter and friends caring for her until her last moments. God bless!
Grandma Lois lives on in our hearts and our memories. She was a beautiful, sweet soul who will be missed. Her famous fried chicken recipe will always remind us of her when we make it at home! Brian, Joan & Norah Byrne
Terri, Your mom was such a Classy lady. I have so many memories. She loved gray gloves. She welcomed everyone into her home in Madison. I am so sorry for your loss. As Sue-Ann says, Lois was so fortunate to have you as such a loving daughter. We are all fortunate to have you as a friend. Love You Terri,
Janie
I planted my first rose bush last spring. I know nothing about roses. I did it in honor of grandma. Only time will tell. But, I believe those roses will be blessed. 🙂
Terri,
In looking at this short vignette, I remember with such fondness not only how wonderful and funny your mom was, but how truly beautiful. A lovely, lovely woman who will be missed so much. She lives on in you, Terri, as so much of Lois is just who you are. My deepest heartfelt condolences for the loss not only to your family, but also to all who knew her. Many blessings at this difficult time.
Lois was a true lady. She was one of the kindest people I have ever known. There was a time in my life where she willingly took me into her home, fed me, listened to me and helped me get back on my feet. Always had a smile. The last time I saw her she hugged me and thanked me for being her friend. Oh my gosh, Lois, it was the other way around. She will be missed by especially Terri and her family and friends (and me).
Will never forget when we were all kids
and went to grandma’s house on Sunday
in Cassville and all the times we came to
Mt. Horeb. Too bad we all had to grow up! Those were the best of times and certainly will live on in our hearts forever.
I always looked forward to seeing all of you. Yes, those were the days and will
never forget them. May she rest in peace.
I’m so happy that my friend Lois whom I often called grandma Byrne came into my life so many years ago after coming to St. Louis. I was drawn to her laughter, her smile, her sweet nature and of course her love of chocolate that I share! Lois always put a smile on my face when I saw her….always. Even though she’s gone I’ll always have my wonderful memories of her and with that I can smile again. Thanks for coming into my life and making it brighter forever. Love you Grandma Byrne. See you again someday. xoxo
Terri…..I am so very sorry for your family’s loss of Mom, Lois and Grandma. She was one special Lady and Friend. I’ve only known her for 13 short years in a life of 96 but she was very dear to me, as you are as well. I know she is in Heaven watching over us and will be our guardian Angel. Your Mom and I had a lot in common and embraced our OCD nature (haha). When ever we all argued about silly things….Lois and I were the ones that always agreed and of course were always right. Mike and I always say, you can’t help but smile when you see her. You know she’s in heaven, walking around in heels, with a fabulous outfit, perfect hair, lips and nails. RIP Lois…Love you always and thanks for loving me back.
While Lois’ death is of course a hard thing for her survivors to bear we should all take pleasure in knowing that until the very end she lived life to the fullest, with a good and mischievous sense of humor, and with a sweet smile on her face. She fully understood the predicament of old age and appreciated immensely the dedicated and wonderful care that she received every day of her life from Terri. Although she is no longer here we can rejoice in a life well-lived.
Terri, your mom was such a loving and beautiful lady. Phil and I are so blessed to have shared so many happy times with you both. Lois will have a special place in our hearts forever. We will miss her.
I truly wish Brayden and I had the opportunity to meet you. I loved hearing the stories about you and all the wonderful ways you touched people’s lives. I am so grateful for the family you created and for the joy in which you embraced life. I have been so fortunate to have the Byrnes in my life and I thank you for helping Brad become the incredible husband and father he is today. I know she will continue to wrap us in her love. Rest in peace, with much love Ashley Byrne (& Brayden Byrne)
I will miss our talks, our laughs we shared, the “Tang” you always had in the fridge, making me wipe down the shower after using it (which I always tried to get out of), and most of all your beautiful smile. I know you will be watching over all us . I was truly blessed to have a grandma like you.. Love you so much!!
In just the last short 7 months, Lois brought so much joy & laughter to us — my father “Pops” Robert Griffin, my brother Bob and I. Our visits to NHC were always brightened by the days we shared with Lois, Terri & their many friends. We will miss you Lois. What luck to have the opportunity to share just a little of your long and beautiful life. Thank you Terri, Mike and David for this this lovely memorial.
Here’s a Mt. Horeb connection for the Byrne kids in the loss of your mom:
Having experienced the loss of our moms, we extend our deepest sympathy to you all.
It’s been our experience that talking frequently to our children and siblings about our parents helps us to rekindle warm and happy memories……and they live on in our hearts and minds.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sharon called me to tell me about this website so I could enjoy this beautiful tribute to beautiful Lois! I’ve tried to stop in St Louis to visit Lois and Terri, but our schedules never worked out. I always think of you as I pass through every year coming to southern Missouri. Lois was so beautiful right up to her last days on earth. But now she is with all who passed before her, so you know she is happy once again. All my love and condolences. Sandy
Lois was a wonderful person and friend. She always made me feel like family, especially back in our softball days in Madison. Her generosity and kindness will always be remembered. My sympathy to Terri and all of her family.
To Terri and the Byrne family,
My deepest condolences to you. Your mother made me feel like family at a time when I needed it most. What a gift she was! One that will not be forgotten.
So many great memories of Lois – holding onto Winston for dear life!, puttering in the front lawn, sitting in the Queen Bee seat at our parties, visiting with Frances at the pool parties at Westport…and more. A beautiful woman, inside and out. Sending you a big hug in this time of sadness…but time for treasuring memories.
I just read about the passing of Lois. She was truly a beautiful woman inside and out. When I worked at Eagle grocery while in college she and her husband would shop frequently. Always the elegant woman with a beautiful smile. I know she will be greatly missed. Terri you’ve been such a wonderful daughter to her and I know this will leave quite a void. My sincere sympathies.
Terri, my dad just told my about the loss of your beautiful mother. My heartfelt sympathy on your loss. The video is a great representation of her life. I remember you introducing me to her and she was so kind and wonderful to me. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
Sincerely, Pam Meredith
