Martin Myers

Martin “Marty” Robert Myers passed away peacefully at Laclede Groves Care Center in Webster Groves, Missouri on March 4th, 2022. Marty was born in St. Louis, MO on April 15th, 1962, to parents Robert Emmett Myers, Jr and Virginia Peterson Myers, the 3rd of their 4 children. He attended Messiah Lutheran Grade School in St. Louis until 4th grade. Then the family moved to Rolla where he attended Mark Twain and Immanuel Lutheran Grade Schools, Rolla Junior High and High School (Class of 1980).

After high school, he lived in Springfield, Missouri, Dallas & Austin, Texas and Santa Barbara, California. It was in Santa Barbara that he met his wife Paula Pappas and his son Kevin. They were married on March 1st, 2000 and gave birth to their daughter Demie in 2002. He moved back to Rolla, Missouri in 2006 with his parents until they all moved to Laclede Groves in 2012.

Marty was an incredible artist, swimmer and wood worker and enjoyed playing cards and games with his family and friends. In high school, he was ranked 3rd in the State of Missouri for the 100-yard breaststroke. Because of his fun-loving personality and patience, he was a much sought-after swim instructor at the YMCA. Many of his art pieces will be cherished by family and friends forever, especially his intricately formed wire trees. As a professional wood worker specializing in architectural components, he was prized by clients in Santa Barbara for his ability to make their visions a reality.

In 2002-03, he survived Stage 4 brain cancer and, contrary to his prognosis, lived to see both of his children grow up. He will be remembered by many for his amazing sense of humor, persistence, and optimism.

Marty is survived by his children Kevin Pappas (Costa Mesa, CA) and Demie Myers (Bakersfield, CA), his brother John Myers (Frankfurt, Germany), sister Beth (and Scott) Dickerhoff (Wildwood, MO), brother Paul (and Lela) Myers (Lee’s Summit, MO) and all his nieces and nephews who knew him as their beloved “Uncle Marty”.

A memorial will be held at 10am on June 25th, 2022 in St. James, Missouri. For directions and other details, please contact a family member or send an email to martys.memorial2022@gmail.com.

Beth, I am so honored that you used that photo, and you did such an amazing job on the slide show. I’m making one too. So many photos of all of us. I miss him, When asked by facebook who I admired most in this world, I put your brother. His optimism, courage, immense strength and his positive attitude and his infectious smile. He made me a better person Wife and Mother. Even though he had to endure so much at such a young age, he was still happy never complained, or thought he was a victim. He always looked at the bright side of things, which in turn, I did as well. All of his attributes, I see in our beautiful children every day. They will be his legacy. Thank you for this. Much love, P.
