Mary Tillman Bullerdick

Mary Tillman Bullerdick passed away early on Oct. 15 after living with lung cancer for most of a decade. She was 69.

Mary was born the youngest of five to Norbert and Helen Tillman in Lorain, Ohio, on April 22, 1946. A nurturer by nature, she became a nurse and a social worker, professions that brought her to St. Louis in 1985, where she managed a home health agency for Jewish Hospital. She met Drew Bullerdick in 1990 and they married two years later on June 28, 1992. They lived in Kirkwood, the home of Trinity Lutheran Church, where Mary found a spiritual home that was a source of great strength and comfort. She also took special joy in caring for her pets, tending her garden, receiving visits from children and grandchildren and following the triumphs of the Cardinals.

Mary is survived by her husband Drew; sister Theodora; daughters Amy Rountree (Chris Murphy) and Jeanie Fite (Jonathon); stepsons Doug (Cris), Chad and Craig (Kara) Bullerdick; as well as 10 grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: John, Norbert and James Tillman.

Her memorial service will take place Friday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 820 Lockett Road in Kirkwood. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Cancer Support Community, CaringBridge, or the charity of your choice.

    Drew, Amy, Jeanie and family,

My prayers and sincere sympathy are with all of you at the loss of Mary. I had the pleasure of knowing Mary during our high school days at Lorain St. Mary’s. She was always so kind and friendly. I certainly came to admire Mary’s ability to share her final life’s journey on Caring Bridge. Her faith, sense of humor, and courage was inspirational. May you find peace in knowing that she is at peace and always watching over you.
