Matthew Earl Warren

Mathew Earl Warren was welcomed into heaven on March 17, 2016, 3 days after his 65th birthday. He was surrounded by his favorite people, comforted by sounds of his brother Darryl playing guitar and the sweet voices of loved ones sending him home to Jesus.

Earl was born in Tyler, TX on March 13, 1951 to his father Houston “Old Daddy” Warren who was a Baptist preacher, and his mother Elizabeth Warren. He was the youngest of seven boys; Jim, Wayne, Joe, Kenneth, Buddy, and Darryl. His memories of growing up in a modest East Texas home gave him a lifetime of stories which would become his legacy. As anyone who has ever met Earl can attest, he was quite a story teller! He could talk for hours about his proudest moments, many of which were during the years in which he served his country as a United States Marine.

Possibly the only accomplishment greater than being a Marine was the day he became a father. As he wrote in his collections of poems; “Three children with which I’ve been blessed: Crystal, not by blood, but chosen you see, because without her there couldn’t be three. Darthy, my darling so precious to me, she is the backbone and strength of our family. Kenneth, my son, my hopes, my dreams, someday to be all I could never be.” He was a grandfather to Dylan, Alexa, Austin, and Jaden; his stories will live on through them, his children, and his friends.

Earl was a child of God, he witnessed to others and raised his family in church. He loved to fish, fix things, and grow things from the earth. He had a kind heart and will be forever missed.

A memorial with military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO, Tuesday March 29th 2016 at 9:45am. He requested to have his remains laid to rest with his granddaughter Alexa Warren, with his mother in Texas, and with his Marine brothers in Jefferson Barracks.

My deepest sympathy to Earl’s family. I was glad to call him my brother-in-law for many years while I was married to his brother Jim. He always brought laughter with him when he was around. He will always be with you in your heart and memories.

My love and prayers go out to Uncle Earl’s kids and grand kids. I spoke with him a few months ago and he spoke proudly of you all. This publication is beautiful. I am thankful you included the poem. It’s beautiful. Rest in peace Earl. Wishing you were here. Thankful you are in a far better place.
