Olivia O. Carroll

Olivia O. Carroll nee Rossini died peacefully at home on August 17, 2021, at the age of 96, surrounded by her seven children.

Olivia was born on November 7, 1924 in Zurich, Switzerland, and moved to the United States at the age of two. She is survived by her children, Christine (Stephen), Martin, Michael (Valentina), Patricia (Salvatore), Maureen, Susan (Don), and John and 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Olivia is preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Carroll; and brothers Rudolpho and Aldo; and by her parents Henry and Irma Rossini.

Olivia was known for her boundless energy, humor and her compassion for all living things, be it two or four legged. Her home in Florissant was a magnet not only for her entire family and their friends (as well as all the animals in the neighborhood) but for anyone who met her. Her children’s friends came by to visit her even when her children had moved away because she had a special warmth about her so people just enjoyed being in her presence.

Olivia was a wonderful cook and was happiest in her kitchen when it was filled with family, friends, rich smells and laughter. She was truly the matriarch of a large, tumultuous family and her influence touched them all and kept a modicum of order. Olivia led her family not with her words but by her actions and her unfailingly gentle touch.

Throughout her life she was an avid gardener and her yard was a constant source of pride for her. Her neighbors must have often chuckled about the fact that Olivia would barely let fallen leaves and branches touch the ground in her yard before she whisked them away. Later, when time allowed, Olivia became a passionate golfer and developed into a well-regarded player. She consistently kept her shots straight and in bounds and often outscored longer hitters having achieved a hole-in-one at the age of 85…. much to their chagrin! Unsurprisingly, she was just as consistently a pleasant companion on the links and a much sought-after partner.

Olivia has been cremated and her service is scheduled for November 9th at 10:00 am at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Olivia Carroll what a beautiful lady. It was a real pleasure to have been a part of her world. She always had a warm smile and a very pleasant demeanor. Her laugh was smile was real and it certainly reflected her inner soul. Olivia did such a wonderful job with her children and it was truly a measurement of her character. Her family is awesome and they all reflect all the good parts of her. Jack has waited such a long time to reunite with her and I am sure they are both extremely happy to be together again. I suspect Olivia is on the golf course seeking her next hole in one. Thanks for making such a loving memory of a wonderful person that has touched us all. God bless you Olivia and may we all meet again down the road. Love You! Miss You!
