Rafael Gomez Polo

Rafael Gustavo Gómez Polo

Rafael “Rafa” Gómez passed away peacefully on February 26, 2023 at the age of 90. He was born in Cartagena, Colombia April 25, 1932.

Predeceased by his loving wife of over 44 years Beatriz (Lemaitre), father Rafael Gómez Franco, mother Aura Estela Polo Nuñez and brother Jose (Pepe). Rafael is survived by his siblings Jaime, Guillermina, Jorge and Carmen, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Loving father to Beatriz (Sean) Quinn, Rafael (Julia) Gomez, Cristina (Terry) Tallent and Ampy (Ron) Kollman-Moore. Doting grandfather to Kathryn Marie Quinn. Beloved “Papa” to many.

Rafael worked as a Chemical Engineer for over 25 years at Lever Brothers in St. Louis. He loved reading , crossword puzzles, pizza, wine, and feeding the neighborhood wildlife. But he would most want to spend time with his family, where his quick wit and gentle sarcasm would keep us on our toes and laughing. The fastest way to put a smile on his face was to mention his precious and only granddaughter, Katie.

He was the most beautiful, faithful person you’d want to meet. He touched many people’s lives right to the end – just ask any of the docs and nurses who took care of him.  His quiet strength and gentlemen nature will be missed.

We so much loved to have him as a guest at Cabin. The memory we have with Rafael is playing Robotic Uno. Loads of laughs with him. He was a very easy man to talk to and a great listener. His smile was bright and awesome. He is now with all our heavenly angels that we lost and so miss. Rafael you will always have a special place in our heart. 💕
